Hajiotsu is about a girl named Himari that's terrified of boys, so her friends pressure her to confess to some guy, any guy, as a sort of trial to get better at interacting with them, with the expectation the guy would turn her down because she's a complete stranger. But, as her luck would have it, the guy she chose said yes.

I found this manga doesn't have much to make it stand out from other shoujo manga featuring a shy couple. The major conflict is also incredibly silly, where they're trying to make it like the girl should feel like some sort of wicked girl ... for having given the wrong impression that she had a crush on the guy in the beginning. The thing is, as soon as they agree to date, they're both obviously into each other and date each other for real, and so this conflict seems silly to me. So what if her reason for asking him out originally was insincere, when she was sincere about everything else?

I also feel like Himari is SO shy, it's difficult to like them as a couple. While they do do normal couple things, at the same time they hardly ever speak and twenty chapters in, it still feels like they know next to nothing about each other.

Another thing I REALLY wish the author had focused on her friends and developed them more. One friend wants to push Himari further into the relationship, and so tricks Himari, but in ways that kind of help her along. The other friend is weirdly possessive of Himari, decides she hates Kai merely because he is dating Himari, and tries to break them up by encouraging Himari to fight him or run away. The two friends with near opposite motivations is an amusing concept, and could have been really great if the author had gone farther with it.

As for the art, most of the time the art is simple and clean. But it's become obvious to me that the manga artist isn't actually that good, such that their art will be going along fine, and then a panel will randomly have completely incorrectly drawn hands, or a face will be off, or so forth. I think the artist normally uses references, and falls apart when they don't have one.

In conclusion, if you're a particular fan of shy couple type romance, you may enjoy this, but there are much better out there.

I always try to read every romance manga that appears on my way, doing so I have read a ton of "clichés".

This is not a bad thing at all, they are called clichés because they work just fine.

This story is just as basic as it can get, girl doesnt have any idea of how to talk to boys, she then meets a boy and she starts to experience love.

The story works fine, and with the artwork it really excells the embarrassment of the characters which I find quite cute.

Dammit, everything its cute in this manga, girls blushing, boys blushing, it looks extremely good.

Overall: 7

Its a good manga, give it a shot if you are like me and you want to see some japanese manga guys find love in the cutest way but without a long story that wants to f*** your brain.

Other reviews will probably give you a good idea of how the manga is so I'll take a slightly different approach.

If you want to see an example of GOOD supporting characters and good friends, read HajiOtsu.

The story itself isn't anything to boast about, but it feels nice to read a manga where the MC has a great pair of friends who aren't just helping him forward but also looking out for him and for each other.

That, coupled with the sweet story and great art will definitely result in a nice read anywhere, anytime. Can't say I will re-read, but can't say I don't want ... more.
