Assuming that the reader has already read/watched the main "Steins;Gate" and "Steins;Gate 0" stories, they should have already encountered tragedy of Shiina Mayuri, her untimely death, and her unrequited love for Okabe Rintaro aka Hououin Kyouma.

Compared to the source material (the "Steins;Gate: My Darling's Embrace" VN), this manga alters or cuts some extraneous material, but the core of our short story stays the same. The counterfactual story plausibly branches off from the canon timeline and explores under what circumstances the childhood-friends dynamic of Okabe and Mayuri could transform into mutual romantic love.
