This is the first manga by Minoru Furuya, and it's so strange, even to his standards!
If you're used to some of the earlier work of the man (like Boku to Issho, for example), you'll see some similarities: an appelative, sexual and degenerate humor with a lot of exaggerated caricatures, but also will see some peculiar characteristics on this one. First of all, this is the first time Minoru Furuya had an real contact at making manga. He had never been an assistant before and was actually on his way to become... a barber! I don't think he made anything while at high school, too. This
...
lack of experience is really evident at the beggining of the manga, with a crude and amateur artstyle, there's hardly an story in some chapters, making it just a dump of really, really realllyyyy appelative jokes, and when there is an story... it just become a dump again. To be sincere, these 30~40 first chapters are quite bad. Unless you love these type of humor more than anything, I don't think you'll manage to enjoy these first chapters
But please, please, do give a chance to this! Furuya quickly develops his skills, and seeing him becoming an great mangaka while reading is so cool! The artstyle becomes memorable and pratically perfect for what it intends to do, the gags, altrough continuing with the appelative aspect, have now some complexity and a build-up to it, making it funnier in general. In these later chapters, he also manages to make a really good use of the giant cast of characters.
For those interessed in the later, darker works of Furuya, there are some hints of this phase of his career here. The obnoxious question, so present in his works, "What would you do if you wake up some day and..." appears here, a hot girl strangely falling in love with the weirdo protagonist begins here, and there's even some quite dark chapters latter on! In a quite strange and amusing way, this is, altrough hard to believe, the same mangaka that did Himizu. And he was a great one since the beggining!
