This is a combined review for Chouchou Nannan and Chouchou Nannan: 2nd, as they flow into each other.
A decent enough start tailspins into mediocrity.
Story: I'm always down for a love triangle, love V, or anything similar. This manga starts with something like that and quickly cuts to the angsty chase of it all. This would have been enough to rate it higher, but there's a particular villain moment that simply makes no sense and cuts the tension halfway through. The plot in 2nd is bizarrely told, but not in a good way.
Chemistry: The strongest point of this manga is the relationship between the love

interests. It's just different enough to similar yuri, but feels cozy and familiar. However, due to plot points as above, the characters suddenly don't have a reason to not get together too soon, which makes their relationship less interesting.
Art: Jin Takemiya has nicely different kind of character designs vs most yuri, so that's a plus. Each character here is distinct and drawn in a way that you easily get what they're about. Backgrounds are sparse but the paneling is at least a little more interesting than average.
Overall, I'd skip this one. It's a pleasant read until the odd villain moment, after which it's all downhill.
