Manga 'City Hunter' Gets New Anime Movie

Production company Aniplex announced a new anime movie for Tsukasa Houjou's City Hunter manga on Friday. The movie is commemorating the anime series' 35th anniversary.

Voice actor Akira Kamiya is returning to star as Ryou Saeba. The first television anime's ending theme "Get Wild" by TM NETWORK will be used as the ending theme for the new movie.

Hojo serialized the comedy detective manga in Weekly Shounen Jump magazine from February 1985 to November 1991. The manga inspired four TV anime, two OVAs, four anime films, three specials, and four anime films.

City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes, the latest anime movie produced by Sunrise, premiered in February 2019, grossing over 1.5 billion yen in the box-office.

The series was also previously adapted into multiple live action adaptations outside Japan, including a Hong-Kong live action movie released in 1993, as well as a French live action movie titled Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon in February 2019.

So excited. Just what I needed. Hopefully they bring back the old cast. let’s see if they do a blu-ray or theater release in the US too, cus I want that so bad.

Maybe they’ll release an English version of the manga again too.

Can't wait. Though still waiting for a Collab with Detective Conan.
I really want to see Mouri Kogouro and Ryo Saeba team up.
I reckon these two will be hilarious together.

Instead make a new series, they make a movie again.
Hmm... i don't know is good or bad news, Fortunately they bring old casts to voice Ryo Saeba and his friends again.

I watched the French Nicky Larson et le parfum de Cupidon movie and it was the MOST HILARIOUS movie I've ever seen! more people need to watch it. It was absolute madness XD XD XD

I saw people on the ANN forum saying that Akira Kamiya is the most expensive voice actor in Japan. So unfortunately, movies are probably the best we can hope for.

Same here. It seems fun, but damn is it a long series to binge.

Just take it one series at a time. I started City Hunter about two years ago and now I have six episodes left. Also City Hunter is an episodic series so you don't have to binge it all at once.

The last film was great, and the franchise seems to be experiencing a real renaissance of late. That's something I didn't expect to happen and so that's a great thing that more people are experiencing it. Plan to read the manga as soon as I can too now it's out in English again.

I'm almost done with City Hunter, but I never seen Shinjuku Private Eyes. Hopefully the new City Hunter movie will be available overseas or on Crunchyroll.

i've been interested in this series for a while, so i kind of hope this is a new adaptation of the manga rather than a spinoff or whatever—maybe something like the new lotgh series?
though if its not a new adaptation i guess i'll just read the manga
