Is this adapting the original manga from start to finish or doing its own thing. I expect the latter

@Egoist_Animehead This will 100% not happen but I genuinely think Sumitomo Yuuko would be an extremely good choice!!!!

Really excited for this one. I first read Ghost in the Shell waaaayyyyyy too young at like 10, so I barely understood it. The art style looks fantastic, very reminscent of the original manga as opposed to the film.

The REAL question is: Who is the new voice for Motoko Kusanagi?
Tanaka Atsuko has been voicing Major for almost 30 years, so the pressure is on.

@-Hermit-

yea i hope they do this much more, as they kinda have been as of late, like with Urusei Yatsura an Ranma's remakes basically keeping the 80s character design

as an older anime watcher, it does get a bit annoying how so many anime have basically the same artstyle, mainly due to lack of animators lol

Hello, it's great news. I am just a beginner at it. I saw only the movie with Scarlett Johansson nevertheless, I will watch the original serial.

it better have black people.

Ooooh interesting! I was only a fan of the first movie, but I got a feeling a lot of people are going to be looking forward to this one.

@EcchiGodMamster
This is what has me excited the most. Late 80's/early 90's artstyle with modern animation techniques? Hell yeah. This show is going to look stunning.

It would be nice if it would be faithful to the manga.

The staff are either nobodies or people with bad resumes

Do you want a list in alphabetically or in random order of how many people that are not nobodies and with great resumes have ruined so many shows?

@Orororurando I'm not against different perspectives on media, as long as it doesn't grossly violate the core IP. But I don't like it when you can nominally love a franchise for its sandwiches, only to find out when you try to enjoy it again that its new vision is based entirely on cakes.

Please for the love of God, don't make it a blurry mess like DanDaDan . Don't sacrifice art quality for needless extreme animation quality like Bones

This one might have the potential to surpass even Stand Alone Complex.

@RobertBobert
Well, if you ever wanna try to get into GitS before this new one comes out, then either the '95 Oshii movie or Stand Alone Complex Season 1 are perfectly fine starting points.

You can just pick whichever one sounds like it fits your vibe better:
do you feel like watching something atmospheric, mindfucky, and visually arresting? Go with the original movie.
Do you like episodic format shows that allow for fleshing out the worldbuilding and a variety of interesting cases/scenarios? Then start with the SAC series.

Some might try to suggest starting with the Arise OVAs since they're pseudo-prequels that feature a younger Kusanagi and the formation of Section 9... but I honestly wouldn't recommend those in general 'cause I just think they're kinda boring and mediocre, lol.

And yeah, personally I don't mind seeing different artists getting to flex their creative liberties by reimagining established IPs, but I can understand why the lack of a consistent vision and direction for the long-term would be a turn-off for some people.

@Orororurando Well, to be honest, I've been wanting to get to know this franchise for a long time, although it's not really my area of interest. But I didn't know where to start, since I didn't see any starting point for all the versions. This is one of my problems with old original titles, they often lack a particular vision and what you are used to associating with them can very easily be thrown out in subsequent reimaginings.

@SuperAdventure Sorry, but what's wrong with Amazon? Is it because they don't promote their shows enough?

Apr 12, 5:04 PM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert
I wouldn't go so far as to say they're different genres, since they all do still share the same cyberpunk genre conventions and tropes for the most part; but yes, they're stylistically different enough from each other that calling them "reinterpretations" sounds about right.

Now, I haven't read the original GitS manga so I have no real authority to speak on it... but from what I gather, it's not really a plot-driven nor a character-driven story, but more of a showcase for Shirow's ideas and vision of a futuristic society in a cyberpunk setting; the worldbuilding is its main appeal. Hence, none of the GitS anime titles so far have really tried to do a faithful 1-to-1 adaptation of the manga; it's more like the creative people behind them have instead opted to take all these various elements and character attributes that Shirow presents in his work, and use them as inspiration to spin their own story.

Too good to be true. I'll believe when I see it.

Apr 12, 4:39 PM by Yang_Wenli

Studio who? It looks like this studio has done a lot of high profile stuff, I am familiar with Heiki Story (it's brilliant)
Production IG has been involved with almost all Ghost in the Shells.

The design of Motoko looks exactly like the manga.. so we have come full circle to Ghost in the Shell being a cutting-edge always futuristic anime, back around to looking toward the past, so I wonder what kind of story this will be. A near-future or present-world political thriller.. I am on board for any
Hopefully Amazon doesn't get it
