Manga 'Unmei no Makimodoshi' Gets TV Anime

Production company STORY opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Fuuta Kimura's Unmei no Makimodoshi (Fate Rewinder) manga on Thursday, revealing the main staff, a super teaser visual (pictured), and super teaser promotional video.

Rie Matsumoto (Kekkai Sensen, Kyousou Giga) is directing the anime at Bones Film. STORY is credited for production.

Kimura originally published the action sci-fi manga as a one-shot in Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic magazine in April 2021. The manga began serializing in Monthly CoroCoro Comic magazine in January 2022. Shogakukan published the ninth volume on April 28, with the tenth volume scheduled to be released on July 28.

Unmei no Makimodoshi was nominated in the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2023.

Synopsis
A secret organization known as the Spacetime Police Special Task Force, nicknamed the "Rewinders," exists to save those who have died tragic, untimely death. Their weapon, the "Retry Eye," is a time machine implanted in their right eye. To solve each case, they'll rewind time dozens, hundreds, even thousands of times, until the future is changed.

Bones Film is really interesting. They seem to have focused on action so far, which honestly is something I don't mind seeing more of.

After a decade of trying to get an original movie off the ground, Rie Matsumoto is finally released from the TOHO mines with nothing to show for it. Now that is the real tragedy of a generational talent stuck in pre-production hell.

Either way, I'm happy we'll finally get a new work from her besides a commercial and a music video every couple of years. Apparently she specifically requested to adapt this manga herself, so I'm looking forward to whatever she cooks.

This has my attention mainly because of animation director Rie Matsumoto (Blood Blockade BAttlefront, Baby I Love You Daze). I expect some stunning animation at work.

The plot is intriguing, but I hope the time travel doesn't make things overcomplicated.
