Crunchyroll announced on July 4 at Japan Expo 2025 that a new anime series based on the titles by horror manga creator Junji Itou, titled Itou Junji: Crimson, is in production. The anime series is the third installment to the anthology series, following Itou Junji: Collection and Itou Junji: Maniac. Crunchyroll will stream the anime worldwide.

Singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya (Majo no Takkyuubin, Kaze Tachinu) is performing the opening theme "Karasuageha."

Produced by Studio Deen, Junji Itou: Collection adapted stories from Itou Junji Kessaku-shuu (Junji Ito Masterpiece Collection) and Ma no Kakera (Fragments of Horror) manga and aired in 12 episodes from January 2018 to March 2018. Crunchyroll is simulcasting Collection with English subtitles and a dub.

Itou Junji: Maniac adapted other stories from his collection and was released in January 2023 on the Netflix streaming service worldwide with English subtitles and dub.

Can't wait for the peak to be animated. Finally some good anime horror is coming. Hopefully Studio Deen will continue animating this.!!! Very excited

They really ahould let it go at this point. None of the 3 recent projects were well-received and i doubt this will have better production value than any of them. You cant half-ass horror or it becomes goofy as hell and impossible to take seriously in any way.

As much as Uzumaki's situation was tragic past the first episode, anthologies were alright from what I heard. I saw one of them and it was okay. Inferior to the manga, due to not as much graphic depiction of body horror, but they grasped the vibe and were rather faithful to the source material (those I had read in the manga format, at least).

let's just hope they won't ruin it like Uzumaki, I still can't believe after all the delays that occured because the studio wanted the show to be the best possible piece was ruined with mediocre animation .

Well, Uzumaki was a disaster but anthologies were fine. I really enjoyed watching Maniac... I will watch this too.

As long as Johnny Cut-Corners isn't behind this adaptation too, then nothing is unadaptable, but I'm definitely not holding my breath either.

Certainly it won’t be as bad as Uzumaki…….right?

when you know smth has gone bad two times and you're still persistent to make it work but it'll flop yet again

make it make sense

and i'll probably watch yet again lol

I hope it's just as bad or worse than Maniac. Shit was so trash that it became funny and good, because the people that made it were really trying 🤣, you know.

I know people generally don't like them, and of course the manga is better, but I enjoy these Junji anime anthologies.

I hope that it won't be as Uzumaki, it was horrible and awful!

I loved the Uzumaki adaptation. Hoping they stick with that art style and story telling
