SOW penned a side story light novel with illustrations by Iwashiro under Shueisha's Jump J Books imprint from September 2010 to March 2011.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in April 2010 and published the 16th and final volume in May 2014.

Synopsis
Ageha Yoshina is a self-confident high school student who helps others for a fee. On his way back from a job, he finds a strange calling card with the word "Psyren" imprinted left behind in a phone booth and decides to keep it, unaware of its purpose. The very next day, Ageha discovers that his classmate Sakurako Amamiya has the exact same calling card in her possession. When he questions her, Sakurako asks him to save her, signaling the day his troubles begin.

Confused by the circumstances of this encounter, Ageha realizes something is wrong when Sakurako goes missing. In an attempt to figure out what is happening, he decides to call the number provided on the calling card and is asked a series of questions by a mysterious voice, ending with a final, cryptic question: "Would you like to go to Psyren?" Thus begins two teenagers' participation in a game of life or death within a strange world inhabited by monsters called Taboo. Granted the ability to use psychic powers known as PSI, the duo fight to return to the place they call home. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Wow; Psyren is a name I haven't heard in ages. Seeing a manga finished more than a decade ago suddenly getting an anime adaptation out of nowhere really opens up the possibilities for other finished works that have been ignored until now.

No surprise as this was already leaked a while ago, but I'm glad to see it officially confirmed.

I'll never complain about older manga getting their chance to shine again in anime form, so long as they don't butcher Psyren like Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer... still salty about that one.

LET'S GOOOOOO!

This was in my list of "manga I would love to see adapted that never will". Glad I was proven wrong.

@Yubisoft Hold on, I was just curious. Actually, I think you were being provocative in your first comment. In the end, I was just curious.

@nandao You can be edgy as much you want and pretend to not understand what I am trying to say but it won't work on me, I have been on the internet for too long for these cheap tactics to work on me. And to answer your comment, I don't give a single damn if an anime is from the 80s, as long as of course it is still ongoing or has other anime seasons. I am fan of One Piece which is super old series. Also for something to be considered super old it doesn;t need to be 50+ years old. Food for thought

Finally an official announcement. Considering that the Psyren manga got cancelled and had to wrap things up quickly, I had low hopes of a studio ever making an anime adaptation of it. Yet here we are. Looking forward to this one.

@Yubisoft If you consider a manga from 2007 to be super old, I'd like to know what term you use when a manga from the 80s gets an anime announcement.

This one’s so good—sadly, Jump’s ranking system has squelched countless great works

It's the first time I have heard of the Psyren series. Based on what I have seen so far, it looks like something I might actually like.

I used to pray for days like this.

wow, no kidding! I read that thing ages ago. I never would have thought people were still aware it existed.

Wait, what? I did NOT see that coming.

First Liar Game, and now we have Psyren adaptation. Never thought I would see this day. Guess I’ll re-read the manga again to refresh my memory as it’s been so long.

But you're calling the director's work is bad only just because it has violence and nothing else
You're dumb for saying such a idiotic take
Talk about how he directs badly to call him bad instead like any reasonable person would like how the production ends up being a mess from an animation perspective or sometimes unfinished
That's what makes a director bad
Not any of the BS you ever said

Don't put words in my mouth, bro.

Berserk is heavily praised so why are we drawing the line at something tamer
Your logic is dumb and nonsensical of that violence equals bad bs
Not everything is gonna rainbow and sunshines
Murder happens in real life too so are you gonna go on a parade how real life sucks because murders exist

Nowhere did I said it's particularly bad.
Just establishes some sort of expectation.

If you're actually a person that can actually discuss things with reasonable arguments you'd explain to me why the violence in this case was done badly , not your stupid "violence equals bad" "argument"

Only heard of it in the past, judging by all the posts in this threat I guess it has its fan base. O.O
