The Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the franchise announced a new anime titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol on Sunday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured right).

The new anime is adapting the Ginga Patrol Shuujin-hen (Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga) from Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou's Dragon Ball Super manga, continuing from the Dragon Ball Super anime's Uchuu Survival-hen (Universe Survival Saga).

Dragon Ball Super aired in 131 episodes from Summer 2015 to Spring 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie premiered in Japan in December 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sequel movie opened in theaters in June 2022, grossing over 2.51 billion yen (approximately US$92.1 million) worldwide.

The Dragon Ball Daima side story anime by Toei Animation, the latest installment in the franchise, aired in 20 episodes from Fall 2024 to Winter 2025. Crunchyroll streamed the anime with multiple subtitles and dubs, and plans to release it on home video on March 3.

Toriyama and Toyotarou began serializing the Dragon Ball Super manga in V-Jump magazine in June 2015. Shueisha published the 24th volume on April 4 last year.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in North America and published the 23rd volume last April, with the 24th volume set for a March 3 release.

@Haou-Judai check out my review of Go Princess if you want my opinion on it and what it represented for me.

Jan 25, 7:41 AM by ProudElitist

@ProudElitist

About that. Go Princess is one of the best precure series and i enjoyed Delicious Party too. Only precure series i don't really like is DokiDoki. That was the worst precure series i ever watch. But my all time favorite is Splash Star and Yes Precure 5.

@Haou-Judai who is trashing, exactly? it's objectively speaking, in the 1986 DB anime there was no story like there was no story in DBZ and GT and everything was centered either on Son Goku or his own family. What the Dragon Ball fandom thinks or not doesn't particularly concern me. Lots of Precure fans think Delicious Party is mediocre while overrating toxic garbage like Go Princess Precure and lots of the Kamen Rider fans think that trash like Kuuga, OOO or Ryuki are amongst the best Kamen Riders of all times while shitting on Masterpieces with a capital M like Kamen Rider Kiva, and both opinions are highly questionable. Whatever, Dragon Ball is for children the same. I'm a 40-years old who loves of the first three shows, I have no problems recognizing it. I like stuff for children, whatever. I won't die for that.

Jan 25, 7:17 AM by ProudElitist

@ProudElitist After Pilaf, There is the tournament arc and Piccolo daimao arc.

Shounen for teens , Kodomo (like Pokemon and Hello kitty) for Childrens.

You are just trashing on the best part of the series and support the trash part. Lot of Dragon ball fan hate GT.

Jan 25, 7:12 AM by Haou-Judai

@Haou-Judai after the Pilaf saga there was no story. The demographic under which the series falls is irrelevant, it's for children the same. With the only character meaning anything being Son Goku, with the rest being there but not that much important and as disposable as a candy envelop. To be generous.

@ProudElitist

Dragon Ball is for Shounens AKA Teens.
OG Dragon Ball is a adventure series. Not just a simple shounen fight. It actualy have story and there i lot of interesting character in the series.

I'm confused, are they continuing Super and retconning it at the same time?

@Haou-Judai how exactly the 1986 DB is in a different category than the rest of the Dragon Ball animes? it's the thing that spawned the entirety of the IP. And it had the same flaws of the rest of the IP: non-existant characters outside the main operpowered one, neverending repetitiviness, lack of any story whatsoever, etc. etc. etc. And it wasn't made for teens, the entirety of the IP is made primarly for children. I myself I've seen merch dedicated to the goriest parts of DBZ (the Sayajin arc, when Vegeta and Goku beat themselves to a pulp) targeted towards children. I say it as a fan of the IP, not an hater. My problems with Daima and Super come only because of the period inbetween GT (which had a perfect ending for the entirety of the IP already) and them, which is usually not a good sign. Not those iterations being for children or not.

@ProudElitist I like the OG DB and Precure. But that is way different category than Dragon ball.

Precure, Super Sentai and Kamen raider may use the same formula but with way different theme, story and characters. Dragon ball use the same f*cking characters with recolored hair and skin as new power up. Beside that Precure, Super Sentai and Kamen Raider is made for kids. So i don't expect big story at all. Dragon Ball in the other and is for teens so story should be better.

@Haou-Judai objectively speaking, everything ended when Oolong asked to Shen Long for the panties at the end of the Pilaf saga. After those ten or so episodes, everything was made up to ca$h in (the tournaments to ca$h in on the growing popularity of the battle shounens, for example?), everything repeated itself (including the namek saga, which is simply a repetition of the Pikkoro Daimao arc with Vegeta thrown in there), everything was reskinned continuosly (Pikkoro is just a reskinned version of his own father). GT is not a cherry in the shit cake, GT is better in every concievable way of the original Dragon Ball series. And I stress In EVERY concievable way, despite the 1986 anime still being very good on its own. Toriyama was not a good writer in the slightest, being better than him didn't take an herculean effort, and the people who wrote GT wrote better than him.
On the forms, you're not a Super Sentai or Kamen Rider fan I hope? I can't imagine how you would be pissed off at the continuous changes in forms of those. You get used to it quickly, nothing out of the ordinary.

@ProudElitist I don't care about boo or Cell or any of the other crap.

My point is that Namake Saga ending was a nice plot to end the series. After that it just streched to make more money. And by that they just killing the series. All they do is repeat the story. Even the power up are just re skined stuff.

Even if i say that Z was still ok. Gt, Super and Daima is just cherry in shit cake.

Jan 25, 12:27 AM by Haou-Judai

dragon ball still makes money?

Jan 24, 11:55 PM by Catalano

@Haou-Judai absolutely and totally not. The best villain of DBZ is not Frieza, the best villain is the last one. Majin Boo. And the only villains who are not obsessed with either immortality or becoming younger but have understandable goals are in Dragon Ball GT, with the eternal empress of Lolis, most perfect anime woman of all anime history and my own main wife Pan as the cherry of the cake.

Jan 24, 10:54 PM by ProudElitist

@Piromysl

Money speak. Sadly. THis series should be end after the Namek Saga.

Jan 24, 10:27 PM by Haou-Judai

@Leo-Senpaii "godfather of anime" godfather of shounen maybe. Anime would be exist without this "shit' too.
