The Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the franchise announced a new television anime titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus on Sunday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured right). The anime series will begin airing on Fuji TV in Fall 2026.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be a remastered version of the Hakaishin Beerus-hen (God of Destruction Beerus Saga, alternatively Battle of Gods Saga) from the Dragon Ball Super anime series, featuring new cuts, revision of the existing scenes, and a full reconstruction of the story.

The Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) movie, which also features the same arc, premiered in Japan in March 2013. Funimation licensed the movie in North America and screened it in theaters in August 2014.

Dragon Ball Super aired in 131 episodes from Summer 2015 to Spring 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie opened in Japan in December 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sequel movie premiered in theaters in June 2022, grossing over 2.51 billion yen (approximately US$92.1 million) worldwide.

Produced by Toei Animation, the Dragon Ball Daima side story anime, the latest installment in the franchise, aired in 20 episodes from Fall 2024 to Winter 2025. Crunchyroll simulcasted the anime with multiple subtitles and dubs, and plans to release it on home video on March 3.

Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou began serializing the Dragon Ball Super manga in V-Jump magazine in June 2015. Shueisha released the 24th volume on April 4 last year.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in North America and shipped the 23rd volume last April, with the 24th volume going on sale on March 3.

Synopsis
Several years have passed since the fierce battle against Majin Buu, and Earth has finally regained a brief moment of peace. At the same time, Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakens from his long, deep sleep. Even Kai and Supreme Kai, aware of Beerus' overwhelming power to destroy entire planets, watch his awakening with great fear... Meanwhile, Beerus hears rumors of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza—and suddenly appears before Goku.

Targeted by Beerus, the strongest being in the universe, Earth is in grave danger. Thus begins an Earth-shattering cosmic battle between the God of Destruction and Goku and his allies—a conflict that will shake the entire universe. (Source: Toei Animation, edited)

This might be the first dragon ball announcement I'm happy with it in a long time.
If they remake every arc to be more similar to the manga and do a proper adaptation of Super it would be great.
I'd love to see the Goku Black arc remade, since the manga did a great job with it.
Also, I'd love to see Trunks with his purple hair again hahaha

Then maybe after Morou they could wrap up the story with super, and maybe a final arc in the manga since I wouldn't say superhero ends that well.
Would be cool if they included Uub afterwards, for a proper send off.

@Pexcel Alright, thanks for the info. But dang, I guess the release of the Galactic Patrol arc anime must be a ways off into the future if they really are planning to remake every DBS arc before that point.

@Adnash So they actually want to retcon Super while they're working on his sequel?

No. The Beerus anime is a remake of the first story arc from DBS storyline (the one with Beerus, heh). The Galactic Patrol, another anime project that was announced at the Genkidamatsuri event, is a sequel to DBS: Broly movie, which is a sequel to the original DBS TV series. :P

this one feels like a waste of time.

Here's virtually every change between the original Dragon Ball Super (2015) and the remastered Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (2026) found in the reveal trailer.

It's a mix of recomps, redraws, and entirely new cuts.

@Orororurando I believe from every piece of info they've given us that this can be considered a reboot of Dragon Ball Super. Both the Anime & Manga have the same plot points, but the paths to getting to those said plot points was vastly different. For example, Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken is an anime-only form, where as Perfected Super Saiyan Blue is a manga-only form. This reboot is aimed at improving DBS by recutting, remastering, and adding extra scenes to improve it visually, pacing-wise and to as well make it much more faithful to the manga.

The plan is to do this for every major arc (minus the filler Arcs like Copy Vegeta) in preparation leading to Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, so expect Resurrection F. Remaster, followed then by U6 v U7 Arc Remaster, etc. I'm unsure if Broly & Super HERO will also get this treatment and I assume they won't due to them still being relatively fresh and the fact that the Broly movie followed the manga cannon.

I honestly just hope we get to see Super Saiyan Goku Black & Goku's Hakai animated. It'd be really sad if Toei missed out on adding it; It's also a great chance to fix the poor anime ending of Zamasu's Arc.

Are the entries on the website to Moro Arc & Beerus coming soon? And why does Toyotarou's name not lead to his page?

Jan 25, 10:29 AM by Pexcel

Wait, so this isn't even an actual remake, just a Fishman Island-like remaster? Lmao, they're basically doing Kai 2, wake me up when they get to Moro

Honestly, 2026 is probably going to be an incredible year for Dragon Ball. Admittedly, for some time now, a lot of leaks have been popping up on Twitter about a DBS remake. In the end, they were right. Many people didn't believe it, and rightly so, DBS is still relatively fresh in everyone's minds, even if that might be a false impression. The anime started in 2015, almost 10 years ago, and especially if you consider what Dragon Ball Super is today, the showcase of the Dragon Ball universe is no longer DBZ, it's DBS.

Now, to be precise, it's not a remake but a remaster, an improved version, a "DBS 2.0 patch." Go look at the trailer images, the images are almost identical. However, there will indeed be new scenes, as well as scenes that have been completely redone. But with a quality approaching Daima, it could be watchable, especially if it's more inspired by the manga, because back then it was a complete mess. The manga and the anime followed roughly the same plot but didn't take the same paths, and both were considered canon, so it was complicated... So, remaking a series following the manga could be a good excuse for a reboot. Even if there were some things in the manga...

Remember the time? Maybe they're trying to recreate the magic of the DBS era, because Dragon Ball Super, despite all its flaws... It traumatized the internet. The Black Goku arc, the Top of the Pan, the fans were crazy, Twitter was on fire every Sunday.

We'll all be there.

@Adnash This isn't sequel to the original DBS?

@deg I heard that the original manga was different, but I didn't know Toriyama and co. criticized it.

Jan 25, 6:10 AM by RobertBobert

Wait, so this is just a remake of the Battle of Gods movie? Lol, the movie was fine, and it's not even that old yet. What is the point of this?

Jan 25, 5:47 AM by Orororurando

Nah I'll skip this one

Jan 25, 5:02 AM by AcD4c

So this will be a third way to experience the Battle of Gods arc animation-wise (fourth overall if including the manga). Basically, it'll be like Dragon Ball Kai, a remaster. At least there's something Dragon Ball-related for me to look forward to later his year. And this upcoming version will be closer to Akira Toriyama's original vision, as apparently, the people who did the original anime (both the movie and 2015 Super) changed some things.

Nobody asked for ts 🥀 gives us the Moro Arc already bruh 💔

Jan 25, 4:29 AM by KingOfMAL

Fun fact: this was called Dragon Ball Super Kai internally. You'll find BoG is now 6 episodes long.

The Golden Freeza arc will follow with the same length later.

It's a remaster, not a full remake. A more ambitious version of Fishman Island Remastered, really.

Tadayoshi Yamamuro is still in charge, but you'll find the likes of Yuya Takahashi, Ryo Onishi, and Takeo Ide involved. The new scenes are very nice - the OG Ep 5 was redone.

It will also include light manga elements such as Goku's image training in chapter 1.

Iyoku discusses that it was his and Toriyama's decision to produce a more version more faithful to Toriyama's original draft as there were too many changes done by the anime team.

"This ENHANCED edition reconstructs the story"

Akira Toriyama was involved in this.

@lean_casla I think the Tournament of Power arc is good as it is. The previous arcs, however... I'd love to see them remade in that new Beerus project's style.

Jan 25, 1:07 AM by Adnash

I'm partially surprised. There were some rumors popping up here and there about a refreshed version of DBS being a possibility, although I didn't expect we'd get this kind of fully fledged remake with high production quality, nor that the refreshed DBS version would be divided into arcs, spread out over time (that is, I really hope that it's only the beginning and that the pre-ToP story arcs are going to receive the same treatment). The trailer looks gorgeous. It's awesome to see Super Saiyan God getting more love, even if it's just another retelling of the same story arc. This one, however, has huge chances to be the best version of them all.

Yeah they'll never stop milking this series......
