This entire presentation was written back in 2019-2020 and hasn't been changed ever. So bear with it please
Pretty much a random medical civil engineering student who enjoys swiming, some biking, playing piano, and memes. I decided to join MAL in 2018. Rather than following current seasonal anime, I am catching up on series I found interesting or some that friends recommended me. I'm also open to suggestions.
If you know me, and find out I submerged into anime to the point of creating a profile here, then I don't even know. Things just happen.
How I got into anime (Long text inbound)
My first exposure to this medium goes back to my childhood years. Years during which the only means of digital entertainment I was aware of were my TV and my older brother's PS1. The first anime I had the opportunity to watch are described today by my acquaintances as old/childhood classics. Ultimate Muscle, Shaman King, Medabots, Pokemon and Digimon are some in the repertoire. However, at that time I was a child: Focused more on just enjoying what I watched, rather than knowing more about it. This way, anime did not seem like a different animetion "genre" to me and I thought of it as another cartoon in the pile.
Years passed and my 13-14 year old self became fascinated by a series called Digimon Frontier. I remember, maybe not vividly but surely, waking up every day earlier than needed to catch a glimpse at the new episode of the week and also talk briefly about it with a couple of friends at school.
Something very interesting happened during that period. For reasons that were unknown to me at the time, I missed many trends, games and series when I was little, and so sometimes I felt there was no common ground when discussing "childhood stuff" with friends and classmates at school. Among that "stuff", was the inevitable Pokemon, a franchise almost everyone knows. However, instead of being bummed by this, with courage I decided to catch up, even if it was already 2012. This led to the following scenario: I started watching the pokemon series from the very first episode and downloaded an emulator (GBAiOS) on my iPod Touch 4G to play FireRed. Unfortunately, I overestimated my discipline and gaming skills, dropping the anime somewhere on season 2, and on the gaming side, stalling with Snorlax. Disappointing, but it would be a sin to say that I did not enjoy it.
(I mean ... There was simply no way I actually sit down to watch 10+ seasons and 10+ movies of pokemon lmao)
Eventually, I learned more about the world and fandom of pokemon through multiple journeys throughout YouTube, forums, nsfw blogs, and an app called iPokedex / Ultradex in which I even got to participate in roleplay chats. And BOI, that's a complete narrative arc on its own, with friendships lost over time, moderators drama and... nsfw moments included... yeah...
So despite all this, at this point in my life I knew very little about anime in general. Following high school graduation, I forgot a lot about this matter, since I was focused on preparing for university entrance exams during 2014-15.
It wasn't until December 2017 that I started watching anime-related content consciously and by my own volition. My sincere gratitude to the YouTube algorithm for normalizing random cliché slice-of-life anime scenes and tropes through my recommended videos, as well as some youtubers (Lost Pause especially) and a ridiculous amount of spare free time I had in 2018. There's also hentai which, for some reason, I watched since the dawn of times knew even before anime. I even remember the name of the first one I watched LMAO *cough cough*... but not a topic to discuss here
I am 100% exceedingly, absolutely, unreservedly very proud to say the series which started it all was Blend-S. All because of the "Smile, Sweet, Sister..." meme.
Now my life is cringy, and I love it.
(★≧▽^))★☆ help pls
Thank you so much, really! I'm glad you liked the videos and I hope they gave you a fair list of anime to watch... Best to you in your projects as well!
