The main entries in UC are the 0079 original, Zeta, ZZ, CCA. These are by the original creator Tomino and should be watched in order. If you drop these at any time, just skip the rest. Some advocate skipping ZZ because the first half is wacky as fuck and "ruins" certain characters, but I don't. Unicorn is a special beast. It's a sequel (not by Tomino) to the aforementioned shows, and many have enjoyed it standalone, but without the UC knowledge you miss out on the full and richer experience. F91 and Victory are also by Tomino, but they're set farther in the future and don't share characters with the previous entries in UC. Everything else are side stories that share the UC setting and events, but for the most part have their own characters and story. G-Savior is a live-action film that doesn't exist. 0083 gets lots of flack for the last few episodes, and IGLOO gets a lot of shit for being full CG, but I enjoyed all the side stories. If you do end up dropping the main entries somewhere, I'd at least watch 0080 and 08th MS Team.
This chart is a bit outdated, but I find it the most intuitive, and it explains things far better than I could with words:
Gundam is very different from the mecha shows you've listed, so I'd start with something short. I recommend sides stories like 0080 War in the Pocket and 08th MS Team. 08th MS Team is one of the more common starting points. It's more grounded and doesn't have any of the space magic that some people like to avoid. 0080 has a focus on characters more than the mecha, plus I think it tells one of the most poignant stories in anime, not just Gundam. However, the side stories aren't very representative of what you can expect in the main shows, which isn't quite as easy to get into. If you have time to spare, for something more representative of Gundam, and as a UC snob, I'd say start with the original MSG 0079, and go down the timeline if you like it enough. However, the original is 40 something episodes, and hasn't aged too well. A good alternative to the original is the Gundam: The Origin manga, or less recommended, the compilation movies.
How do you feel about mecha in general? I see you have TTGL, and pretty much nothing else other than a few cyberpunk shows.
So I was half wrong. Good.
RoV I felt was the epitome of classic shoujo. Watched it first when I was fairly young, and again a few years ago, and was pleased with how well it holds up.
My profile picture is from some show called Mobile Suit Gundam. Some mecha anime. It's fairly obscure, you probably never heard of it.
Also, did your forum avatar used to be a duck? Or perhaps Ginko? My brain's fairly conceited, and I'd like to prove it wrong.
Hope you like the set and happy new year to you too!
Platonically
Yyou're amazing (⊙ヮ⊙). I honestly expected a random crappy, low-quality, pixelated drawing (since I stated that I was okay with getting something like it) and you blew my expectatives by miles, thanky'as sonny <( ̄︶ ̄)>
