I started watching anime back in the Fall of 2017. In comparison, I started reading manga/manhwa/manhua in 2020. Currently, I have watched approximately around 700 anime within 6 years.

600th anime - Vinland Saga S2 (19/6/2023)
700th anime - Wind Breaker (1/7/2024)
Reached 10.000 total episodes (21/6/2023)
Reached 5.000 total Chapters (18/10/2023)

I happily indulge in this media, because:

1. Politics, and author agendas aren't the forefront of most stories (yet), and even if some stories are generic, they mostly aim to build a story divided from real-world talking points - even if it's a horrible self-insert. For most Asian drawn entertainment - story, plot, and characters are all at the forefront of the creative process. You'd most of the times be able to enjoy an anime/manga without always feeling the suffocating pretentious writing that most modern western shows have now.
Prior, most authors and studio employees would feel a creative freedom without fearing major backlash on social media. This however, has changed and in most cases, are unjustified. When in actuality, production companies are the ones ruining our beloved series. (i.e. OPM S3) I hope most studios in the future are able to become more independent from production companies so that the industry as a whole becomes less profit focused and returns to a more creative/art focused production.

2. For anime and donghua, there is no other form of media in the world that creates better looking/interesting fight scenes in the world. Top tier Sakuga will always be, for me, one of the most appreciated forms of animation. Obviously, I truly enjoy a wonderful art direction, but only fluent, meaningful animation bring it all together.

3. Like any top-tier written media, especially from Asian origins, people find a deeper appreciation for the work spent animating, building worlds, creating characters with deeper dynamics, and how they express themselves within their given universe. Situations like these are unfortunately rare occasions in western works.
If there are occurrences of these cases, it's usually either one singular movie (sometimes with a bad sequel) or a one-off series.

4. I love over-the-top and expressive animation. Anime is one of the only media in the world that allows animators to develop scenes that are beyond the average imagination and let their creativity spread in crazy cool ways that emphasize emotions, movements, or even just fight scenes. Which usually cannot be replicated in standard live-action or traditional Western anime. Japan most of the time doesn't see a boundary to how wacky they can make their media seem.

5. Some stories are written and presented so well that they bring more emotions out of the reader/viewer than most modern Western shows nowadays. Every blue moon, a modern Western show/movie actually radiates passion and emotion. Even now, there are plenty of anime that can change one's whole perspective on life or infect you with pure happiness by just watching the wackiness some anime brings.

6. I love the culture and traditions of Asian countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Butan, Nepal, and Mongolia. The different etiquette, lifestyles, and communication are, for me, very different and new. Seeing new sides of humanity is so cool to me.

7. Some artwork that has been brought out through Anime since its inception can be absolutely stellar. Many scenes within this media are beautifully crafted, and in some cases, every frame is a masterpiece. These wonderfully crafted series ooze passion and creativity.

(IMPORTANT: I have nothing against the West or Western media, in fact, I love it just the same as anime. Yet anime brings out a side that Western media can't/won't replicate. It's like having a passion for the same hobby, but there are different categories within that hobby.)

I absolutely adore watching/reading anything anime-related, it just shows me a different reality which is so cool to watch and read.
