Hmm About myself, well this being a site dedicated to anime i think it only proper to focus on my history on anime, and less on my life itself. Just so anyone who cares I'm just a 20 year old guy, also a college student in Texas.
I suppose you could say that i was first introduced to anime somewhere between 2005-2007 when i was 14-16, I believe (though I cannot say for sure) that i saw anime on TV for the first time, Adult Swim. FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, and Ghost in the Shell were some series that i remember seeing a few episodes when i felt like staying up at night (At the time i didn't know what the show's were really about though). I remember it being interesting and i tried to watch the shows each night to follow the storyline, but it didn't work out that well being able to only see 1 episode a day. The thing that really got me interested in the Otaku culture was Manga. And I know specifically what Manga as well as volume which got me started.
It was in 2007 my freshman year in High school, a new friend of mine in choir brought some manga to class because we had a free day and didn't have to practice. I asked her if i could read some and she said it was fine. I read the seventh volume of I''s. After that i asked to borrow whatever volumes she had of I''s, which wasn't many, But she was a pretty big fan of Anime and introduced me to some other series like Ranma 1/2. So i decided to go buy each volume of I''s from Barns N' Noble bookstore. I loved the series, Being a teenage guy helped a lot since it was a pretty Ecchi story, but i also loved the characters. The story is actually a typical high school love drama, but I didn't know that at the time. I simply felt i could really connect with the main character with his embarrassing moments, as well as shyness towards the girl he loves.
So i started reading a lot of manga during high school, It really picked up when i found out that people did Scanlations online. I really wish i had cataloged what manga i read, but alas I cannot remember all of them. Then I had to stop for certain circumstances in 2009.
So I started watching anime religiously in 2010, when i found out that people did fansubs of series, and you could watch the entire anime streaming online i was ecstatic. Though i didn't document what shows i watched. I think it was October of that year that i saw Shakugan no Shana for the first time, and I my jaw was dropped to the floor watching every single episode. It was like a little piece of Anime heaven, I loved it so much that i felt i had to write down the series, but i had a better idea. Why not create a profile in some anime database and save the anime shows i watch and rate them. So i did a little research and created an account at Anime News Network (not the greatest site for cataloging my personal anime i watch). Then I found a site called anime-planet which helped greatly in finding similar series to ones i already liked. And at that point i started watching series back to back. Completely hooked on Anime! :D . Eventually I created an account here at MAL because it seems to document more specific things to anime series other than just rating it.
My absolute favorite anime series that i would Recommend to anyone...
Please Note that it was very difficult to organize #'s 11-23. I put them in order of my personal preference not based on how good the anime is. Also they difference between them are very close, so essentially if i rated them on something like a 10 point rating system they would be within a 0.5 range of each other. So do not think #20 is a lot worse than #11
[I do plan to re-arrange this list. Hopefully 2021 after I watch a lot of the Anime that I downloaded)
1. Full Metal Panic!
2. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

The most important thing for me is the Enjoyment factor I get while watching. A series might have a poor story, but If i absolutely loved some other aspect of the anime then I will give it a higher rating. Or maybe the story was really really good, but there were some elements of the show that were questionable. I still might not care about the bad points. Its very not rigid. It is entirely based on how I feel while watching it. Maybe a series has a Good story, But I just can't get into it. Well then It isn't that great for me then.
The way i Rate things is:
10: Masterpiece; I loved this anime alot and i think it is definitely worth rewatching, as well as sharing with all my friends.
9: Excellent; I thought this anime was really good, I do think it is worth a rewatch because it suites my taste for some reason, but probably will not share it with my friends
8: Very Good; This anime was enjoyable, but i only might rewatch it, and it is very unlikely i will share it with my friends
7: Good; This anime was not a waste of time, but i don't necessarily think that i need to re-watch, and won't share it or share it with my friends
6: Decent; There were some good points to this anime, but they were overshadowed by the problems i saw in the anime. Not worth a rewatch
5: So-So; There were alot of problems with the anime, and there might have been something good about it. It is at this point that if the anime deserves this rating, in my eyes, i probably dropped it and didn't even finish the series.
4: Not really good; Hated this anime
3: Weak; If the anime is this bad i didnt watch it. and will never watch, if i did watch something this bad it is only because it is connected to a better series
2: Bad; same as number 3
1: Awful; same as number 3
0: Worst ever; I have yet to encounter an anime this bad and it should be wiped off the face of the planet, as well as the director/creator taken to the back yard and........
The problem with this rating system is that 98% of the anime i watch fall into 10-7, which obviously does not make sense. This occurred because when i started rating the anime i watched i only watched anime that generally was already accepted as a good series. so when i started watching other series i only put them 1 or 2 points below masterpiece.
Plus i am generous by nature :P
September 15 2016: I am going to start using a new Rating system now. starting with this Ghost in the Shell Arise. Any anime watched before the middle of 2016 uses my old rating system. I am going to be a little more realistic with my ratings, since i have grown a little older and my taste's have changed somewhat. So many things that i have previously watched that i gave high scores, i probably wouldn't give the same rating now. I wont change the rating unless i rewatch them (For now), but now whenever i see a new anime its rating will seem worse since it will be grouped with other anime that in the past i listed as not very good.
Nov 8 2020: Rewatching all the series I have rated is simply too much. So I wont be as critical as i once planned. Nor am I going to just go through the list of anime and drop the scores without actually re-watching it. I have modified my rating system above and so whenever I re-watch a series I will change it based on the criteria above. It still leans towards the 10-7 range. But I think I can be more honest with myself now about an anime being actually a 6-5 score if it deserves it. Most things however might only drop one point. For example from a 9 to an 8. And that's okay. The most important thing to me is how much I enjoyed the series. Whether it be the characters, or story, or romance, or ecchi. I have my personal tastes and so keeping something at a high score means I think that I ENJOYED IT.
