Hi, I'm trying to start a club for critical and knowledgable anime fans. My friend sent me your account and you really fit the bill. The two purposes of the club are to foster community via the club Discord server, and to create a robust poll of the "greatest anime of all time", voted on by members in a thread on the front page of the club. Each member would post their personal top ten list in the thread, titled "Post Your Top Ten", and then eventually I will compile all the lists into a final aggregate. Well, Ty Cobb was a genius and a pioneer, but also a despicable, awful human being. I think the manga really captured all of that, instead of only focusing on one of these traits.

I wouldn't necessarily mind if Bokurano was a partial rip-off; after all, I love "Battle Royale", and that's hugely influenced by "Lord of the Flies". Your write-up makes it sound very interesting, so I'll add it to my giant manga queu. Thanks.

And yeah, I have both "Blue Heaven" and "Jiraishin" in my manga plan-to-read list. I can tell you're a big Takahashi fan based on those recommendations; I've only read "Dead Flowers" so far, and it was a very good one-shot.

As for Baki, he's not that obsessive, especially once he reaches the age of 17 and becomes the champion of the underground fight league. In the manga, he is even portrayed as a bit lazy/overly relaxed on a few occasions, and there's a romantic subplot with his girlfriend.

As for my list of favorites, it's a decent, representative sample, but "G Senjou Heaven's Door" (maybe the absolute best I've read), "Blade of the Immortal", "Seizon Life", and "20th Century Boys" is just as great, and a number of other works aren't far behind.
