From Summer 2025 onwards, there will be 2 aspects on how I rate animes.
a) Anime Quality π½οΈ(out of 5 β )
- based on plot, characters, animation, art etc.
β Plot: any strong, easy or understandable plot of an anime. Any "predictable", cliche or "patterned" plot that I can easily guess will lose the β .
β Characters: they must have some sort of interaction or development; play a role in the anime too. Any character that is "character-of-the-episode" will lose the β unless the anime has above 13 eps.
β Animation: as long as it counts as anime (doesn't need to be ufotable/MAPPA/Wit Studio animation). Powerpoint slides or incompatible usage of CG will lose the β .
β Art/Visual: anything that doesn't require me to bleach my eyes. AI usage (Twins Hinahima for instance here) or unnecessary effects (Watari-kun no xx ga Honkai Sunzen as example) will lose the β .
β Anything else that complements the anime or makes the anime itself special/how does it stood above other animes imo. For instance, Giji Harem with the voice acting or any 10β anime (in my anime list) that felt completed; production consistency.
b) Personal Enjoyment π(out of 5 β )
- how I enjoy the anime itself
5β - very high enjoyment with stronger priority to watch the anime first than other β 's, worth rewatching, higher tendency to binge-watch/watch multiple eps in one sitting
4β - high enjoyment with a strong priority to watch the anime, lower tendency to binge-watch
3β - medium enjoyment, probably because the anime is a little bit repetitive/boring/slow, other factors include: non-understandable/cringe plot, unlikable characters
2β - low enjoyment, happens when the anime sucks, becomes a forced watch atp, β‘οΈ may be commenced
1β - very low enjoyment, would consider dropping the anime or keep suffering
0β - instant drop
- For instance, I will watch the 5β anime first, then moving on to the lower β 's, but that's based on my day/motivation.
You can see my rated animes in the anime list, do note that I won't put the score first until the anime finishes airing/watching.
Note:
Usually, most of my animes watched will be around 6 - 10 scored, if it's 5 or less, that means the anime I'm watching is beyond horrible in terms of quality & enjoyment. Also, I won't give any anime 1β unless dropped or both aspects gets a half-star, β―ͺ.
A β― (or β‘ for removing) is called a decision-making star, where either I remove or add a normal β after a period of episodes watched (usually 2 or 3 eps).
Some notes regarding β―'s:
β―I : indicates the 1st episode watched to make a decision whether to add a star or not.
β―II : indicates the 2nd episode watched to make a decision whether to add a star or not; this'll be the last episode to make a decision.
β‘I : indicates the 1st episode watched to make a decision whether to remove a star or not.
β‘II : indicates the 2nd episode watched to make a decision whether to remove a star or not; this'll be the last episode to make a decision.
Note that half-stars (β―ͺ) are ONLY given when I'm able to complete an anime that DESERVES a 1β , which means unlike other stars, I won't give the half-star earlier into a particular anime.
Remarks:
β‘οΈ - speeding up the anime (more like skipping 5 secs frequently) due to boring anime
π« - filler skip
πΊ - anime watcher/continued from anime
Rating system updates:
Update 1 (π Fall 2025):
> Added the half-star concept for any undroppable 1-star animes.
> Added the decision-making star β― (or β‘ for removing) for visible tracking on adding/removing it.
> Personal enjoyment rating for 5β , 4β and 3β revamped for fairer and much accurate rating:
- "Worth rewatching" is now 5β only (previous; 5β high, 4β low)
- "Binge-watch in one sitting" is now applicable to 5β (high tendency) and 4β (low tendency)
- 3β rating now has factors that I personally don't enjoy but still enjoys the rest, i.e. unlikable characters/cringe plot/non-understandable plot
- In other words, it can be visualized in the table below:
Happy 1 year anniversary to this MAL account! π
One of the reasons why I created this account in the first place is to store and record my animes watched, though I've been doing that months before this account was created.
The main reason is due to a pirate site called anix/aniwave etc. was shut down on this day last year. It is crazy how a site with 10,000+ anime titles (even with the 1960s animes too) was gone just like that.
Nevertheless, the incident still is a blessing in disguise, as most of the animes I've watched since I created this account was from searching via MAL's seasonal animes and top animes. I'm also happy to be taking part on forums, commenting on other profiles and met some amazing people.
Hi! Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to like my The Quintessential Quintuplets review! I noticed you’re eyeing Ao no Hako and Kaguya Sama…I’ve been meaning to read the manga myself because I loved the Kaguya anime.
It's the unfortunate fact that before I complete one, I will have added at least 5 more. :(
I don't think I'll ever clear this. Suggested titles and recommendations usually arise in discussion forums. Some may comment on what an anime reminds them of. Some of these may be stuff you see from pictures I see in Facebook such as the underrated anime group, or perhaps you will hear a friend in X talking about it.

Can't wait to see what's gonna happen next!
