I see, you do have a point there, the series really doesn't seem to give attention to the improvements on the characters, except for some parts that I don't think I need to mention. However, this lack of attention that the series give to characters happen in almost all shonen animes, even in the ones that have a time skip, like One Piece, where Luffy's crew just got stronger after those two years. Not to mention I can just name a few other animes that the characters actually change throughout the series, other than that is just flashbacks and conflicts resolutions that make the whole character development in most series, like Cowboy bebop for example, which still has great characters.

Characters not aging and not getting physically stronger is just one aspect of Gintama and that obviously isn't the main focus of Gintama, so, I understand your concern when people complain about that because that's not how the series is.

I'm sorry man, I couldn't help but to say something about your picture about character development and story in Gintama.

First of all, I'm a big fan of Gintama, so don't get me wrong.

"Expecting character development in Gintama". By this statement it looks like that you imply that there's no character development in Gintama, you know, I don't know that is your concept of character development, but that's obviously one of the strongest points of Gintama. We would never laugh so hard at funny moments of cry at sad moments if there was no character development. Every arc of the series developed at least one character and some of them even introduced new characters into the series as well.

I just think you really misunderstood that, saying that people shouldn't expect character development in Gintama is badly wrong because the series does as masterful job at this point.

About the "expecting main story" part, there's not much to say, expecting a main story in Gintama is like changing how Gintama works and it wouldn't be as awesome as it is now, right?
