I'm a massive data nerd, so I made my own, in my opinion simpler, rating system. Less litigating the difference between a 6/10 Story and a 7/10 Story. For those curious:
Story: (0-5)
Was the story fun or insightful? Did the little details work together to add to the story?
Character: (0-5)
Were the main characters interesting? Did they interact with the story and grow? Did the supporting cast interact with the main cast meaningfully?
Enjoyment: (0-5)
This is purely subjective. The more the show made me feel, the higher the score.
Art: (0-2)
Detailed and fluid animation, beautifully drawn backgrounds and characters, creative use of the medium, or an exceptionally good soundtrack can get a 2. 0's are rare. Most shows get a 1.
Insight: (0-2)
I like a show that teaches me things about the real world or gets me to rethink my perspective on things. I dislike shows that put heavy focus on fanservice or fight scenes. This score is an extra nudge for those. Most shows get a 1.
Sums up to a range of 0-19. Add 1, divide by 2 (round up) to get a 1-10 score for MAL.
