Your review of Oniisama e... was spot on! Very well said. The absolute GALL of them to bait us with all these well-written, captivating female characters just to beat us over the head with these boring ass men towards the end... how dare they!

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

No worry about this, the series is episodic with each part featuring self contained story including movies as well that it is recommended anyway for any episodic show to not binge watch and simply watching the series depending on the mood or watching at your own pace.

If you like episodic shows from 70s and 80s that are historical series that left an impact on the anime industry I recommend lupin the 3rd it is the series about lupin and his gang traveling around the world stealing biggest treasures in the world. It is historical anime since it is one of the first adult anime and the first anime that showed in Japan that there is a market for adult audience and also lupin the 3rd part 1 second half marks the first ever debut of Hayao Miazaki as a series director to then the movie lupin the 3rd castle of cagliostro became first Miazaki movie that also made many of the formulas that were in this film used in later of his movies under "studio ghibli" era.

The show is very fun.

that discourse of shonen vs seinen or shojo vs josei is tiresome and the fact that 98% of that discourse that is in western anime community would be nonexistent if the people would learn what are demographics and actual genre and also diffrieciate the two, and thanks to this if they would also discover manga magazines what they are and what they focus on and founding their favorite manga magazine that specializes in their favorite genres/themes with that they would also have highest quality control of what stories they want to experience.

Because of that ridicolous tiresome discourse so many incredible profound stories are avoided at all cost just because "oh seinen means mature stories that covers sensitive topics so no I am not gonna watch/read", "oh shonen means it is all about battle and action I'm gonna avoid at all cost", "oh shojo means romance it's boring I'm gonna skip that" type of mentality. Ahh I wish more people in the community would learn about these because we live in 1/3rd of 21st century when information is radily accessible and these demographics and simillar things are very easy to understand.

Hey :3 is it ok if i move our convo from battle shounen soap thread here to comment section? (as we're going a lil offtopic)

@DigiCat My personal interests? Sewing, art, cooking and baking, music (I can play the violin and piano), home design, and I like video games and anime. I also like skating.

I like a variety of anime and manga, but I lean more Shoujo. I like a variety of shows, but the shows I prefer are the ones that men (specifically white) like to call DEI (I love diverse shows).

That's cool, i play a bit of violin and piano too :3

What kind of things do you like to cook/bake?

I'm not that great at cooking, i do enjoy experamenting different things (simple things), but i cook more out of necessity than enjoyment, the necessity of not living off instant ramen lol
Since i do like noodles i'll usually try to find different ways to make some with fresh ingredients, i also like to make my own burger mix rather than buying ready patties

I can't skate to save my life đź’€ or ride a bike for that matter, have literally catapulted myself off one just riding down a hill... ok i was being dumb as shit and freeriding no breaks or pedals, i do like runnig, well sprinting, am not that great at long distant

For anime, and really any media, my favorites tend to be a combination of action and psychological thrillers/dramas, also really like sci-fi, fantasy, and historical settings where i can explore different worlds and/or time periods

You mentioned shoujo and DEI, what are some of your favorites that fit those and why?

To point out the review hardly makes sense from the artistic point of view, when not just viewing works as shallow time fillers.
abystoma2 Jun 6, 2025 4:03 AM
>anime bad because characters are not good people

I would suggest sticking to Bluey.

(regarding the utena review)

This is basically what you said about Honey Lemon Soda. While I agreed on the fact the anime being mediocre I suspected it stemed from a rushed and low budget adaptation rather than mediocre original. But this turned out to be false.

Do you mean by 'obligation to like it' that an unfavourable reception might negatively impact future anime adaptions of other shoujo manga? Or that shoujo anime fans are starved for content thus willing to take anything the anime industry graciously throws at them?
Hiyajo-san May 12, 2025 5:07 AM
Soooo I finally started reading Honey Lemon Soda (finished volume 5 atm). It turns out that your assessment is correct. The anime does not drag the source material down much, the manga is just slightly better. I do not really understand the popularity behind it.

The art is very pretty though. And Kai is way hotter in the manga imo.

Question: did you rewatch FLCL before making your review? I couldn't tell with how it was worded.

I disagree with your main criticism of the anime. Yes, most of the characters are terrible people, but I'd argue that FLCL is the kind of show where there's a point to it. A lot of what the show's about is what it means to be an adult and growing up; having all the adult figures in Naota's life be terrible role models is kinda the point. They're examples of adults who never grew up, and examples of what Naota could end up like.

That being said, I can't blame you for simply disliking FLCL. It's not for everyone and that's fine.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
