You have so many anime on your PTW list and it's been 2 years since I last re-watched Stand Alone Complex.

My busy, tomboyish friend from Maryland is about the same age as you and she watched Stand Alone Complex almost every night. So have I and she's a huge fan of Dot Hack.

Dot Hack games and Stand Alone Complex share similar American voice actors too.

Aya Hisakawa? She's one of the best things about Grandia 1. Also the best thing about Zegapain (I love Ayasumi AKA Saber and Melfina; Viki from Suikoden reminds of Tomoko Nomura being as ditzy and scatterbrained).

As for unconventional cyberpunk, it's been a year since I re-watched Solty Rei. Exploring themes of loss, hope and identity while lacking traditional cyberpunk aesthetics. My half-Asian told me that she grew out of those old aesthetics like ugly neon lights in the background. I also love the fact that its got Mamiko Noto and Sayaka Ohara in the cast years before the release of Valkyria Chronicles. Looking forward to reading Private Eye which is also unconventional cyberpunk. That and Tokyo Ghost.
