Liz to Aoi Tori has a pretty sad moment (bittersweet probably a better word) but it happens in the fairy-tale that they show in parallel to the school stuff. Nobody dies but it's a particularly touching "parting of the ways" scene that'd definitely make anyone cry I would think. The school characters themselves hit a rough patch too but it works out in the end resulting in one of the most beautiful to watch reconciliation scenes between two people ever (in my book at least). Totally worth some crying to get to that awesome ending.

The other ones aren't sad at all (Kageki does have some drama) so you should be totally fine with those. Hibike2 has some drama too but for both it's not sad drama.

Oh, Hibike does have a lot of entries but a couple of those are recaps and a few side stories. Frankly I don't get why the anime industry bothers with recaps as it just clutters things up IMO. To cut through the clutter just watch:

Hibike Kakedasu Monaka (optional side-story but may as well as it's just one episode)
Hibike S2
Liz
Hibike Chikai no Finale
Hibike Nensei-hen (won't be ready until 2024)

Kageki Shoujo -- Anime about the Takarazuka Revue music school (has Revue Starlight vibes to it).
Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku -- Awesome all-girl middle-school SoL.
Bocchi the Rock -- Girl rock band.
Lycoris Recoil -- A little more action-y.
Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru -- Romcom (a bit pervy in places).

Hey silverwhirlwind! I just logged into MAL to add all the animes that I watched since moving to anilist. I somehow couldn't resist checking out all the people I was in contact on here back in the days :D I hope you are doing well :3

I loved Utena and, true, it was metaphorical af BUT, it was entertaining in other ways: the characters, the humor, the silhouette announcer girls so even though it didn't make much sense it was awesome for those reasons and others besides -- can't say the same for Mawaru or Yuri Kuma which were just mindfucks (aside from the nice art). I also liked Utena's leggy, old-school art style that looked a lot like CLAMP's style. The music was also more interesting.

Bloom was a nice solid show. I gave it a 7: IIRC it wasn't all that feelsy for me but mainly it felt like it needed more episodes. Nothing spectacular but felt like something more might develop nearer I got to the end but never did -- hence more episodes or seasons would be nice I'd definitely watch them if it ever gets follow on seasons or OVA's.

Actually I'm not a fan of the really metaphorical stuff -- it needs to be rather obvious for me to enjoy it. I gave lowish scores to Mawaru Penguindrum and Yuri Kuma Arashi because I dare anybody to figure out what either is about without reading some explanatory blog afterwards. Both those shows had me staring at the screen blankly for minutes on end -- I don't need that.

I had Starlight in my PTW but I'll tag it and up the priority for it :) Trying to type with one hand because my cat is on my shoulder haha! The pic is something that caught my eye on Tumblr. I'm searching for it now and seems to be cover art from a yuri light novel. I'm only getting results from Amazon it doesn't seem to be in MAL database.
