Let me just say, my gods... this was so hard to find something that fits this.
I don't watch mystery/psychological animes, you love them. I love romance, you dislike them. I found a perfect anime from my nonexisting mystery/psychological list to recommend, you already watched it...
1. Monster
I recommended this one to you because all my friends have been recommending me this. However, it contains horror and I no likey. I actually plan to watch this sooner or later but mystery/psychological/horror is not really my go to anime. It seems to fit all of what you usually watch. The only problem is is that it is 74 episodes... I little over your 13 max episodes right? :D But I'm sure you will love this.
2. Serial Experiments Lain
Been recommended this once. But as I say, I'm not a big fan of this genre. However, my friend says it is "interesting" and that's why he recommended me this. It is a little old but I feel like it is something worth watching. Has a perfect 13 max episodes for you unlike Monster.
I don't know if you would want to pick one or both of them to watch.
"Feel free to share your thoughts with everyone in the thread"
Haha, really now? Tbh, I can definitely see why you are thinking that. Tropes come from earlier time too. I guess i just think it accumulated to something awesome in those 3 animes. I can forgive ur mild pessimism. Don't worry. Be yourself bro.
I heard AoT with trains has some good potential. Well art is nice but if the story isn't good, art can't really make up for it. I'm glad you aren't regretting watching it. I would hate when that would happen.
I sort of put NHK on hold and I have been watching Zankou and Gekkan. I also finished Another. It was a funny anime. It sort of had the feel of a Final Destination style anime.
I know it's been a while anywho, what's up? What's new with you and how goes your anime watching?
Yes, OPM was a let down on the first watch, but the second watch with a calm mind made it funnier. Oh nice, AoT with trains has that much of an effect on the art eh. That's nice. I like the way you broke it down. Now it gives me a bit of hope that this anime may not be a failure.
Hmm, alright. I like the unpredictability. It sure does keep one guessing.
Overall, I gave it a 7. It was just a comedy psychological horror for me. I thought it from that angle. Atm, I'm watching Zankou no Terror. It sort of has a DN style premise of Cat vs Mouse or Detective vs Criminal chase however, I wonder if the show will hold on to its potential. The music is great and the art style is pretty nice but it's the story that does the show justice.
Hmm, I'm going to keep that anime in mind. It looks like a good premise for sure.
Angel Beats! is pretty heavy on the comedy, but I didn't feel that it took away from the serious aspects of the show. It's not quite the same kind of horror/mystery as something like Another, but throughout the show you're kind of trying to figure out what's going on (along with the MC). It doesn't have a mystery tag, but it has a supernatural tag and throughout the show you're trying to figure out what the deal with the whole supernatural aspect is.
That's why I considered it mystery, and thought you'd enjoy it.
This show only has 13 episodes, but I didn't feel that it was rushed or that they really left anything out. I think they did very well at explaining everything in only those 13 episodes. (There are a few OVA/alternate ending type episodes, but I didn't watch those)
As for Code Geass, it's just a great action show that will constantly surprise you. Not to say anything more than what's stated in the rather short synopsis: it's about a guy named Lelouch who gets a certain power, and what he does with said power.
When it comes to the MC, I'd say this show reminds me a lot of Death Note.
That's not to say that Lelouch is as sinister as Light, but they are both geniuses and it astounds me how far in advance they predict/plan things.
The downside to this show is that there are two seasons of 25 episodes, which is why I made two suggestions. I think you would really like this show though, so I would recommending watching it at some point when you have the kind of time for a show with two seasons. (because I doubt you're going to want to stop after the first season!)
Hopefully you'll enjoy one or both of those shows! They're both pretty high up on my list of favorites, so I'm always glad when I can show them to someone else who hasn't seen them. ^-^
"Feel free to share your thoughts with everyone in the thread"
Hey hey! Good to see you at least (implied-ly)moving your fingers. xD
Yeah I agree with the Ansatsu direction. xD That "killer move" was quite a something though, eh? xP
Rofl and oh god, the secret move indeed. I thought I only cracked up like that when I was watching things with other people, but nope. Lost it. xD I think the new guy was also quite blown away in the latest Kiznaiver. xD But~ I agree, the characters are definitely making the show for me so far, still though, I believe in the plot being able to fill out in a great way.
Ah hahaha express train, the binge might be worth that joke alone. xD
And yeah Soul Eater was great, I just thought the art style was a tad on the different side just like Onmyouji.. I honestly haven't been bothered with proportions much.. maybe I should pay closer attention to see that. xP Soul Eater for the hell of mentioning though, does end anime original sadly.. I've seen numerous people saying they want a "Soul Eater Brotherhood" xD And I fully support that idea.
That latest episode of Zero was great indeed, but maaan I was so pissed off when he woke up at the end. Mainly because if I made those types of plans I'd be pissed to lose them. xD But yeah.. he didn't notice anything was gonna happen at all so I wonder how he'll play it out differently in order to.. not have that happen at night.
Bungou's latest was so... xD looked so worrisome but then nope. That flip was funnier to me after all the tension.
Yeah and Mayoiga got even weirder.. a huge version of MC apparently? I dunno wtf to think of that. xD But I agree it's finally starting to move.. looking forward to what comes next.
And yes, Divine Gate.. no, not really recommendable on any level. xD Unless you like crap you can't follow for shit then maybe it's cool.
The outline is basically they wrote 5 episodes of pretty decent story for Aoto, and then the rest was just filling it out, like seriously. You will not know how to feel the entire time you're watching it rofl. I finished it for the sake of having it finished.. it's so low for a reason. xD
And yes, for now Boku no Hero Academia is indeed a one cour, but.. well that one's been expected to be one of the successors to the big 3 that would get its own on-going run. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, I admit.. I still think this one cour is testing the waters and they'll probably release something bigger pretty soon after. That's just me(and really many others), though. We'll see what happens xP
Oh and I'm definitely enjoying it too. xD "Nice girl" is indeed nice and I look forward to those two's development. :U And the old lady healer was pretty funny to me. xD But man, the extent to which he screwed himself up after that punch though.. was crazy.
Anyway, glad to contribute my friend. :D There's still tons left where that came from, some letters are just unpopular. xD As you can imagine given the general use of the English language, there are tons of bands under T and S, and other letters. xP Once you're past all those there'll still be plenty to check out >:3
I do agree that popularity plays a huge part in elevating your expectations. Also, the tropes might have been used in the newer animes but the execution still remains to be solid in the classics. No, I don't mind. I remember watching OPM with so much hype around it that halfway through I was beginning to wonder, why all this hype.
Oh really? Then I must give AoT with trains a watch when it's done. That's nice. Not many people I meet are into the art style in anime. Hmm, Stray dogs definitely seemed to be meeting your desired expectations.
I just finished another actually. It feels like I watched Final Destination meeting anime with a mystery sort of anime. It was funny. Not that scary.
Alkaline Trio, favorite album "Crimson," lyrical masterpieces here and there and the instrumental is already impressive, but considering they're three people? Man. xD
Bring Me The Horizon, their entire album of "That's The Spirit" astonishes me.
Coheed and Cambria, two songs: "Neverender" and "Welcome Home" but an amassment of music in general. xD
A Day To Remember, this is cheating but they're seriously the best for D. xD First song I heard from them if you haven't gotten to it yet- "The Plot To Bomb The Panhandle"
Emery, song that hooked me- "Studying Politics"
From Ashes To New.. "I Will Show You" also has a Hunter x Hunter AMV.. I have that same fear as before but just in case you haven't seen it, it's worth telling you about. xD
Green Day for G.. I don't know how you wouldn't know them but they're the best for it. xD;
Hawthorne Heights.. I'm hit and miss with their songs after aging a little for some reason, but I confirmed for myself a day or two ago, "Dead In The Water" is still fantastic.
Incubus. No matter what you are into they probably have at least one song you like haha. Their sound is so widespread across the years it's crazy. The album "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." is a bit harder than anything you might have heard of theirs.. unless you've heard it already. xP "Drive" is always a classic, but "Absolution Calling" is a more recent song I still loved of theirs.
Jimmy Eat World, not necessarily hard, just good. xD Nearly all of the album "Bleed American" is a must.. and still so much more beyond that~
Kids In The Way, the song "We Are" was the first i heard fom them.. instant like haha.
The Living End, the song "End Of The World"
Matchbox Romance, aside from their first EP, two albums, "Stories and Alibies" and "Voices." They're very different styles but I happen to love both. xD "Surrender" might be my favorite song of theirs.
New Found Glory, tons of music, pretty solid sound over the years. A good way to track their growth is listening through "Dressed To Kill," "All Downhill From Here," and "Selfless." (Though honestly those last two alone are ten years apart haha..)
Our Last Night, the song "Same Old War" is both amazing, and has a Nanatsu no Taizai AMV. xD Which is an awesome-looking anime I intend to check out sometime soon.
Panic! At The Disco(I feel like P consists of all well known, so I'm just gonna reinforce the tried an true with this one xD I still listen to their album "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" on a weekly basis~)
Queens Of The Stone Age, you know what? Screw Q. xD I only know this one band, and their one song "No One Knows," but I admit, it's good anyway. xP
Rise Against, do not care if heard, listen again. xD Favorite album.. "The Sufferer & The Witness," I guess. xD All so good.
Something Corporate, gonna give you something to slow down in this case. xD Their music is usually not too hard and pretty beautiful really. Album "North" for best results(in my opinion).
Thrice, same case as Rise Against. Absolutely top pick. The album "The Artist In The Ambulance," as well as the song, plus the song "The Melting Point Of Wax" on the same album. Still beyond that though, all so good. xD
Unwritten Law, the album "Elva" is decently diverse, and if you can fish up the actual tracks there's some pretty funny dialogue in there. "Good Mourning" is still good too of course, "Lost Control" is my favorite off that album. I actually have not listened to "Swan" yet. O:
Valencia, "What Are You Doing, Man? That's Weird!" A great song with a great title. xD "Away We Go" possibly my favorite break up song. "Where Did You Go?" beautiful lyrics.. potentially heart breaking depending on when you listen to it.
Weezer is my only W, but they're enough to support the letter. xD "Say It Ain't So" has been a good listen for years to me now, and everything else they do is pretty whimsical while still sounding great.. though I will admit, I only liked one song on their latest album, but it may be different for you. (That song being "Back To The Shack")
X is already crossed out, I'm afraid we're leaving it that way. xD
You Me At Six, songs off their current album titled "Room To Breathe," and "Win Some, Lose Some" are my favorites.
Zeke.. I dunno if I recommend them anymore, but they were good skate music while playing Tony Hawk back in the day. That's all I have for Z haha. "Death Alley" is the one I recall in question. Won't be offended if it's not for you. xD
I wish I could travel but cost aside, it's a tad on the difficult side for me as well xP Although cost is still probably the biggest issue haha.
And yeah~ if everything turns out alright(which holy crap I hope it does, that character was super cute before xD), I think it'll be a great development tool.. I wanna predict she actually came around but has now lost control, but we'll see. c:
And yes, absurdity, perfect word to sum up Sakamoto. The bee fight was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. xD
Pretty much same feelings for Kiznaiver, expecting a lot but I'm confident in them delivering.. anime original is actually usually pretty good if it's not borrowing from other source material. xD Fillers are terrible but actual, well thought out stories with somewhere to go usually end on a high note.
Also yeah~ Koutetsujou would be amazing binge material.. although I dunno, I think I'd rather enjoy the ride(heh trains) instead of seeing it all in a day pretty much haha. That one feels like it's gonna leave an emptiness when it's gone~
In Onmyouji's case I agree it looks a little off, and I do notice it at times but well.. I enjoyed things like Soul Eater just fine too. xD Story is my main focus, otherwise I never could've properly watched Trigun hahaha.
Hm I read a synopsis for Re:Zero and knew that bit was coming. xD I just had no idea it was gonna be so, so.. dark when it hit. owo Like holy shit. And I happen to love that so 8D win/win. (Both KonoSuba and Grimgar were fantastic too, Grimgar was my favorite of the season)
I'm right there with you on Bungou too xD I saw people talking about being worried for it before that episode and thought "really?" I've enjoyed every episode leading up to that incredibly awesome one. xD They obviously serve their purposes and the general silliness of the show is part of its charm.~
Mayoiga..
I think Masaki is likely something not human and that Yottsun tried to rape her and got his dumb ass killed. At least that's what I'm hoping for haha. If that's true that'll certainly pique my interest even more.
Also yes, ASSBOUND-SAN <lost it at that part, is delusional and annoying as hell. As is execution chick. But hey, she's the perfect person to wanna get away from society because you know that view of hers would be heavily criticized. Like I said, I'll see it out to the end either way. xD I sat through all of Divine Gate somehow.
Boku no Hero Academia- The predictions of this one living up to Naruto/Bleach/One Piece etc., I can definitely see it happening. Agreed on the training montage, I wish someone would make me do that much crap. xD This one has already made me really emotional too. I did not get that at the start of many other shounen.. if any really? Even though I know it's the story about the hero I felt so bad for him, and his mom crying too was also just a heart wrencher.
And we'll see what you think of your last comment when I post the damn alphabet list! >:D
Man I would love to work from home for that exact reason. xD And I'm the same on chances but I try and see things out to the end.. The one anime I dropped was because I was watching it with someone, and we both thought it was getting pretty dumb. And oh lord was it, but anyway haha.
That twist was indeed.. something. No one ever could have seen that coming I don't think. owo I'm actually watching that one alongside a friend via Skype and after like 15 minutes in I was just like "This feels so surreal." xD I'm with ya though, that felt like pure shock factor or something.. I'd prefer things stayed normal enough. New enemy actually=new enemy please, haha.
Ah a top 3.. is really hard to do when I haven't seen the end of any of them yet D: but I'll try.. hm.
Okay I can answer for comedy that Sakamoto desu ga? is freaking hilarious and outclasses the other comedies I've taken on.
And I.. hmm. Okay, I have to admit Kiznaiver is amazing to me, and I think the world could use the system they've come up with. xD
Koutetsujou no Kabaneri has the most hardcore MC I've seen possibly ever.
But.. Sousei no Onmyouji looks like it could get both really cool and really cute.
Annnd.. Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu has been crazy good so far<somewhat literally to that phrase
Annnnnnnnd Bungou Stray Dogs just recently took a turn for the insanely promising. xD
...<w< I have a gut feeling that Mayoiga is going to turn out being right up my ally
And >w> Boku no Hero Academia has been really good so far too, all the shounen need is satisfied with that one. xD
Appreciate all the thought nwn I feel like I've dealt with a lot already so I'm confident whatever it is I'll pull through just fine. xD
But man, given that I'm home 98% of the time(though let's be honest, I'd be doing it anyway), I'm watching 12 of them haha. +1 that's still running from last season(Ansatsu Kyoushitsu).
And no worries, I don't think I have a power trip per alphabet letter hahaha. I'll definitely throw in some that are good in other ways. xP

And >w> Boku no Hero Academia has been really good so far too, all the shounen need is satisfied with that one. xD
I have failed you.
I'll definitely throw in some that are good in other ways. xP
