How have you been?
Yeah I intend to add a quick update to the review given that 5 more episodes have come out. I thought Episode 10 was absolutely fantastic for the story and for the character development of the guy in it, I don't remember his name lol. Goro's development was also good but it added some more "development" for Hiro which only did more to solidify him in my eyes as "generic anime protagonist #543." However I thought it was very interesting with Ep 11 when we see that Hiro forgot his promise to Mitsuru so that was a lot different from everything else we've been shown about Hiro. The rest of the character development that episode I thought was pretty garbage and didn't make any sense - why tf would Kokoro want to leave the fat guy, why did glasses girl want to try pistil-pistil piloting when literally all they've known is that the Franxx can only be piloted by pistil-stamen. I understand the lesbian/gay themes starting to be hinted at, however, but my end point is that they are being explored very poorly, just like the rest of the deeper themes being "explored," at least in my opinion.
Given my (limited) experience with mecha anime (I haven't seen too many shows that could be classified under the genre "mecha"), I don't really get that "mecha" vibe from this show. Even if they are trying to be a gateway anime, the uniqueness of any of the concepts found in Franxx does not come close to justifying the blatant rip off of several elements from other shows as well as the use and abuse of generic character cliches/tropes, especially in Hiro's case.
And of course, this is all my opinion. A lot of people will like this show enough to where they don't see the same issues as negatively as I do and they will probably ignore them all together. I'm really looking forward to how the show progresses in that I really want to see it get better because some of the deeper philosophies/themes it is trying to explore are very interesting and IF done well can be very entertaining to see play out. I also like some of the characters and want to see what happens to them - I personally like Ichigo and the fat guy (after Kokoro cucked him hard). I might try to write a full review as well after the show finishes but I've already put so much time and effort into that first review and replying to all these comments/messages that I'm worn out of writing about Darling xD But there's still a lot of time left :D
So... I see you're a Mashu's fan, what are your thoughts about the 5º singularity coming soon?
