You have a very good point there! For me personally back when I was growing up I prefer to watch my anime dubbed, so oftentimes I would go to Blockbuster Video, rent an anime and then be disappointed that it was subtitled only. Was my fault though for not checking the back of the box.
Dude yes! Even though I didn't order a lot of things from the Rightstuf, I do remember those paper catalogs they used to send. They were actually pretty thick, like maybe a quarter size of a phone book? I remember all of the anime screenshots they had been in black and white as well. I first acquired their catalog in the mail back in like 1999 or 2000. To this day I still have no clue how they found me or my address. I remember getting like another two or three catalogs throughout the years after that.
Oooooh dude! Looks like you are a similar old school anime fan just like me! I too used to go to Blockbuster Video and Hollywood Video very frequently. I never bought a whole lot of things from the Rightstuf, but I was definitely a regular at Suncoast at my local Mall.
It's crazy to think how expensive anime was back then. Around $30 USD for a VHS tape or DVD with only two episodes. Now you can get a complete box set for cheaper than that. Hahaha!
Not at all! I enjoyed reading that. I always find it fascinating to see how everybody's anime journey differs from one another. Your story sounds kind of similar to mine. I grew up watching anime at a very very young age, though back then I thought they were American cartoons. It wasn't until I started watching anime on the Sci-fi channel that they would blatantly say that it was animation from Japan. I was blown away at the time!
So was it your buddy that tipped you off that it was anime you were watching the whole time?
Hey thanks for that buddy! I appreciate the kind words on my profile. :)
I was going to ask you if you were into retro anime as well, then I saw Space Cobra, Dirty Pair, Record of lodos War. You even have Vampire Princess Miyu on your list. I don't see many people with that one. Such classic series that really take me back. High five!
