I generally don’t pay much attention to these kinds of people. It’s important to recognize that a significant portion of the anime fandom is quite young and, frankly, detached from reality. That said, I don’t have any ill will toward the series as a whole. In fact, I genuinely respect how the author crafted a cohesive narrative with a well-developed cast of characters. I completely understand why the series receives so much praise.

What I don’t understand, however, is the level of admiration Rudeus gets—especially to the point where MyAnimeList users will go to extreme lengths to defend him. Liking Mushoku Tensei isn’t the issue; the problem arises when someone idolizes Rudeus as a character, despite his defining flaw never being meaningfully addressed or redeemed. At that point, I can’t help but question their moral compass.

I have my doubts about its validity only because it implies that pacifism demands we abide the rule of law when an authoritarian installs themselves as the be-all. It actually demands we peacefully oppose when possible and only utilize violence as the absolute last resort. What would-be dictators thrive on is violence and presence. If you give neither, they cannot perpetuate their myths.
