The author published a couple of chapters in one of the shoujo magazines and drew a poster with male characters in ikemen image for some women's magazine. If I remember correctly, they did the collaboration in recognition of manga's large female audience.

Well, as we see with Saiki Kusuo and Attack on Titan, this isn't the first time male-focused or gender-neutral works have received shoujo adaptations.

Well, Code Geass has indeed always had a significant female fanbase, especially due to CLAMP as an illustrator, but why Cowboy got an adaptation in a shoujo magazine is a mystery to me.

Hello! I'm sorry, but neither Cowboy Bebop nor Code Geass were shoujo anime. These are original shows for a more or less wide audience that have received adaptations in shoujo magazines, among others.

I definitely agree. It's cute art belies that it deals with some pretty heavy topics, and doesn't pull its punches with them. I really enjoyed its perspective on small town life and on trying to find your place in the world.
