"My fire is unlike those unfulfilled and incomplete combustions you see everywhere. It may be for a moment, but my fire roars up so bright and hot, it's almost blinding. And then, all that remains is pure white ash. There are no embers left.....just pure white ash."- Yabuki Joe
"Chatting about it with you has given me the Macross itch lol. Thinking about just watching every series in the franchise lol."
Yeah, I think you should. In parallel, I have been re-watching the Universal Century timeline of Gundam too, and it's been a blast. I plan on re-watching the alternate universe Gundam stuff after I'm done with the UC timeline. I'm currently on Victory Gundam and have been watching in chronological order. I guess I've had mecha fever the last few months lol.
I don't blame you lol. I played the vanilla release of P5 when it came out. When I saw P5 royal, I couldn't muster another playthrough despite the added content. I already put like almost 200 hours in P5...maybe more since I did multiple playthroughs. Agreed, Atlus needs to stop f*cking around and give us P6 lol. Even then though...I might wait for the P6 expansion release. Could well be into 2030 by the time I get to it. I have not played P3 or P4, but it's in my queue. But, I have been playing Metaphor Refantazio. It's a good game. I'm on hiatus with it for now though.
There was a Macross DYRL 4K Blu Ray release a while back ago. You can get it through Amazon, but the import fees jack up the price. It would be nice to own one day, but maybe not right now.
Macross 7...it's polarizing among the fandom. You'll either like it or hate it lol. If you end up thinking it's meh, then it's more of a one and done. The male MC is more of a subversion of your reluctant/stoic hero archetype like Hikaru or Amuro Ray (Gundam) to be more of a character possessed by his art/music and passion. Does things at his own pace. You'll understand what I mean, if you give it a go. The female MC is Max and Milia's youngest daughter. She's one of the few reasons I kept watching M7 since she is one of the more grounded characters. She is part of the same band as the male MC, and does vocals for some of the songs.
Personally, M7 isn't my favorite, but the music is decent, if you like 90's rock:
I would pretty much reiterate the same things for Macross Delta. They lean too heavily on the music and idol stuff. The original Macross found a good balance between the war drama and music/cultural elements. Macross 7 literally uses music as a weapon lol smh. It's weird to think that M7 and Plus were greenlit at the same time for production yet are vastly different in tone. M7 is more of a campy vibe, if you like that.
I feel like at the current rate we are going, the next Macross installment after delta will be a AB48 size idol group given the idol squad in Macross Delta lol. The only thing, I guess, that's good about Delta is some of the music.
If you just like the music, then Delta will be fun for you. If you want more of that war drama, like me, from the original Macross, it's pretty lackluster. I would say Macross Frontier did a decent job at balancing the music and war drama though.
"n any game I play with romance in it, better believe I’m taking the harem route if it’s an option"
I like it haha. Going to be TheHaremKing528 like Issei from Highschool DxD heh.
I think the true ending requires you to acquire all persona in the compendium (fusion or capture) on the 2nd playthrough. It's been a long time since I've played it though (around 2016-2017).
" I hated how in the post war episodes the three main characters and the love triangle, that had seemingly concluded reverted to how everything was at the beginning of the series."
Haha, fair enough. I agree with that. I think I like the post-war stuff in a sense because it shows that their problems aren't solved by the magic power of music/culture like something out of Macross 7 or Delta. At the same time, I do like the post-apocalyptic angle where they're rebuilding civilization through the integration of the Zentradi. But yeah, I did hear about how Macross got the extension from another friend on here. DYRL is probably my all time favorite animated movie.
I think I romanced Ann the first time. I did romance Kawakami on another playthrough. I think I replayed it like 4 times lmao. P5 was my first persona game, but I enjoyed it so much. That said, if I could romance Sae Nijima, she would've been my primary choice lol. She was planned to be an option, but Atlus cut it.
Damn, Shido? You're getting towards the end of the game now. :D You plan on going for the true ending on another playthrough?
Yeah, I recently re-watched SDF Macross and Macross DYRL again (my third re-watch lol). They both hold up very well. They're still my favorite series. I was always a Misa fan, but I have a soft spot for Minmay now too.
Thank you for the friend request. I still need to get around some anime essentials like Golden Boy & Outlaw Star. I've been starting GTO but I've been on and off with it as I'm watching other things.
"Hey now, the prequels are thought of quite fondly in this day and age, especially ROTS, since Disney has seemingly killed the franchise."
I was comparing the original trilogy vs the prequel trilogy, but yes, in light of the Disney trilogy, the prequel episodes look great lol. I think Disney killed the franchise personally, but yeah, maybe it's on life support at the moment.
Yeah, Kowloon was pretty good. I wish they expanded on some things, but I guess they left it ambiguous since the manga is still ongoing.
"You see themes of hope and survival in Yamato but compared to a Harlock that touches on things like freedom, rebellion and fighting against oppression and corruption, more character driven"
Well said. Definitely seems to be the case when you watch GE999, Harlock, or Queen Millennia. They are primarily character-driven shows. GE999 grapples with the questions of what does it mean to be human, and is our humanity worth preserving...increasingly important questions with the advent of AI and the transhumanistic movement. Queen Millennia grapples with the same questions but from a different perspective I think.
"Guess it can’t really be counted as part of the Leijiverse if that’s true huh."
It would appear so. Going back to the Star Wars example, it's my opinion (and many others) that when Lucas directed his prequel trilogy, it wasn't as good as the original trilogy. Lucas was instrumental for the big ideas and creation, but the execution wasn't great. I would argue the same for Leijiverse stuff. Personally, I think Leiji had great ideas, but if you watch some of his spin-off stuff, it's not as good or well implemented. Probably not enough people to reign him in lol. I wish he cared more about a cohesive lore rather than the "toki no wa" argument of just doing parallel universes (license for being lazy, if I take the cynical read lol).
Apparently, Leiji is listed as staff on it, but I don't think it's all him like how the original trilogy of Star Wars isn't all George Lucas. I think there were some crossovers of Yamato and Captain Harlock, but I don't consider Yamato to be in the Leijiverse imho. The stylistic differences suggest that to me. Harlock, GE999, Queen Millenia, etc. have a sort of fable / humanistic tone to them that's nuanced vs. Yamato. I'd have to watch it all again to give you specifics, but that was my sense of it. You probably disagree.
Yamato is one of the better retro anime. I haven't watched Yamato 3 since the subs are supposedly spotty, and it isn't the same fansub (I think) group that did Yamato 1 and 2. In parallel, the Yamato 1 reboot is great, but the 2nd season of the reboot isn't as great...maybe due to the director change?
Kurisu is definitely top-tier. :D
The anime had me thinking about it for weeks after, so I get it. Much like Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Personally, I thought Steins;gate 0 was not necessary since the original was great by itself. But it was fine for what it was. The Kagari arc was weird. She was sort of a red herring too--I thought she was related to Kurisu, but I don't think she had any real connection to Kurisu, if I recall.

Also, I love the sandwich pic of Kawakami. XD
You recently play Persona 5?

Very much appreciated.
Yes! LOGH is worth the watch. Watch the two movies first and then pick up at episode 3 of the 110 episode OVA and go from there.

2nd Movie: https://myanimelist.net/anime/3016/Ginga_Eiyuu_Densetsu__Arata_naru_Tatakai_no_Overture
The anime had me thinking about it for weeks after, so I get it. Much like Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

I would definitely check out the sequel movie to wrap it up, if you haven't planned so already.

As for Steins;gate 0, I had mixed feelings with that one, but it was pretty good. Not as good as the original series though.
