Hey I'm Toasterheater and it's nice to meet you!
I started watching anime right around 2008 and begun it all with Pokémon! Ever since then I've continued to watch anime at a steady pace. I use the MAL app half the time so I'm a little slow when it comes to accepting friend requests or replying. (usually only get on site when changing my profile)
About me: I graduated early from high school and I'm currently a firefighter for the city I live in. My favorite hobbies include wildlife photography, video games, and going to the gym :)

Aha, I see that you've a few reasons as to why you don't rate the anime you watch. The first reason was that some anime are visually amazing but have a poor plot - that's a very valid reason but couldn't you rate them based on how much you first enjoyed them visually and then lower down the rating based on how poor/boring you found the plot? For example Demon Slayer has that 10/10 animation but the plot/characters weren't as equally good as the animation thus the final rating is 7/10 etc.
Your second reason was that a 1-10 rating encourages an overall judgement rather than a breakdown of the individual components & the third and final reason was that of limited expressive power with a arbitrary number.
You also said 'Conveying ones thoughts and opinions is more than a 1-10 scale rating could handle, that is what I believe. :)' which I totally get and respect your perspective. It’s clear that you’ve thought about this deeply and your points about how a number can oversimplify a show's strengths and weaknesses make a lot of sense in a broader discussion setting but just a thought! since your anime list is something personal, wouldn’t a rating still be useful in your own way? Even if a rating isn’t perfect, it could still serve as a quick reference for how you felt about a show at the time especially after watching so many like yourself (you're soon going to hit the 500 mark soon, congrats :p). I get that numbers can’t capture all the nuance but maybe they could still be alongside your thoughts as a kind of shorthand. Just an idea!
PS: Did you enjoy watching Shiguang Dailiren?😅 I was thinking of watching it with a friend of mine but he mostly watches mainstream shounen anime and so I thought it might be better for me to watch it alone instead :P
It's Nice to meet You
Happy Birthday!
