Until then, I'll stick to Macross before Frontier.
At least next year will be a promising year for entertainment. Plenty of games from India will come to Gamepass, Steam, Xbox, etc next year. Lots more will also come from Korea and China. I hope that Japanese developers will be up for some serious competition.
Technically, you can still play as a paladin in Ragnarok Online, but you would have to change to imperial guard to take on stronger monsters or access very dangerous dungeons. Only fourth classes like the imperial guard or higher extended classes can wear more advanced gears. That or get the next best high-end weapons. I'll be waiting for future Ragnarok Online gears too even though I'm happy with the Grace set and happy that extended classes have already gotten more gear choices.
I really need to explore other Korean mmorpgs as well, including other classics that came out in the 2000s like Mabinogi.
As for manga, I'll be exploring the rest of Guyver. Wild Arms XF was a good game to manga adaptation besides Suikoden 3 which has a more detailed story than its source material.
Yes, Aki Shimizu is a great mangaka. Some of her art and character expressions in Suikoden 3 reminds me of FMA.
I also want to check out Enshrouded some time. Especially for crafting that I experienced in Star Ocean 3 or first fully 3D installment in its franchise.
It may be important to note that you can easily finish the story of Ark of Napishtim. A smartphone can easily emulate that PSP port and that of its successor, Oath in Felghana. Ys VIII is the successor of both that I haven't played yet, but I prefer the older Ys games' artstyles.
Robotech is just a poorly localized Macross. I prefer Macross with the ADV dubs and crisp animations. Yes, ADV dubs including Vic Mignogna who everyone knows as Edward Eric.
I also had no idea that your birthday was close to that of Aya Hisakawa, the original Sailor Mercury and Skuld. Anyhow! I hope that it was a jolly one.
She was also Rena from Star Ocean 2 in the remake which I delved into last year. A semitomboy from Indiana that spoke fluent Japanese once told me that she loved Star Ocean 2 before she got married. I hope that she had a wonderful birthday on the 13th of November. She's definitely 38 years old this year. I hope that she'll get a chance to play some Nihon Falcom games like Ark of Napistim (I fell in love with the elvish character Olha since I was in high school; it was heartwarming that when Olha was freed from a cage, she hugged that cherrytop boy Adol) and Trails of Cold Steel which also includes Aya Hisakawa. Being the voice of a lady knight called Arianrhod wearing armor comparatively sexy to that of a paladin in Ragnarok Online. Paladin is now Imperial Guard in Ragnarok Online, by the way.
Anyway, I hope that Tales of Versperia on the Switch will be a fun as expected. Content-wise, it's comparable to FF9 and definitely more sidequests than that of Star Ocean 2. Till The End of Time or Star Ocean 3 got me spending 95+ hours because of crafting.
As for One Piece, all of a sudden! it's a symbol of resistance against authority among zoomers fighting class warfare. Class warfare is as real in this universe or timeline as it is in Suikoden. Gen Z will definitely be around to boost One Piece manga sales.
Carry One Piece manga in a Gen Z protest and you may get some easy money. Kind of kidding though, but it will sell.
Anyhow, I definitely want a copy of Time Stranger after playing it in my brother's house. MediaVision proved their worth once again.
So far, the only adaptation of Suikoden is that Suikoden 3 manga. Great artwork and story, by the way. I still look forward to seeing the first anime adaptation of Suikoden 1 and 2. Hopefully, JYB will be included when it's dubbed. IIRC, he was the protagonist of Suikoden 5 which came out 20 years ago. It was nice exploring class warfare, abuse of power (like that island queen that blasted pirates using a parasitic artifact of doom and payed the price; disintegrated) and the consequences of war in that franchise loosely based on Journey To The West. The inspiration for Dragon Ball.
Anyway, I haven't played Tales of Xillia in ages. My favorite Tales of character is Judith (happy birthday to her voice actress Aya Hisakawa) which is from Vesperia. With that said, I lost the copy ages ago and I'll play the Japanese copy next time because I love Miyuki Sawashiro. Namco should have picked a younger actress for Millia in the western release. Millia is supposed to be 19 not 50. Same age as Ashley from Wild Arms 2, a boy no older than Cloud Strife.
Maybe not Robotech or Garzey's Wing levels of disappointing in dubbing, but it should have been better. Their excuse is that that they came out a long time ago, same with Tales of Eternia. ADR didn't get better until ADV was founded with Vic Mignogna who used to be a rising star in the 90s.
Yes, I heard better acting in Dominion Tank Police (having a young female cop that sounds exactly young and spunky), Hyper Police (would have been completely mediocre if it hadn't been for Kaoru, Mimori, Meryl, Lieza or Naru's American actress, Dorothy Elias Fahn) and Venus Wars.
With that said, I'll have better chances of playing Korean action RPGs before ES6 or KH4 comes out.
So glad that Square Enix is returning to form and becoming 100% Japanese after shutting down their western offices. I prefer JRPGs to stay Japanese. Same with Armored Core, Digimon and Ninja Gaiden (currently playing NG4).
I got an OK ending in Suikoden 2, but I'll definitely replay it later.
As we can see, the holidays are getting closer and I would sure love to get Digimon Story: Time Stranger for Christmas. Any other RPG would be fine and I'll even welcome Korean action RPGs.
As for Halloween, I bet that Kasumi's ninja costume would suit you.
My favorite female ninja besides Kiriko, Ayane and Tenten. Yes, Tenten is a very underrated character.
Grandia 3 deserves to get remastered, by the way, but a good remaster. It's awesome because of its theme song (amazing pop rock music) and Johnny Yong Bosch.
At least the voice acting, music and story in Suikoden Tactics were quite nice. The story was slightly deeper than its sequel Suikoden 4. I still love that idea of exploring the seas that other Suikoden games don't have. Especially with the help of pirates (you would probably think of One Piece right now).
I also had no idea that the Kolook Empire and Island Federation in Suikoden 4 were south of Suikoden 2's respective continent. The franchise as a whole seem kind of episodic. Though 4 and Tactics are more connected.
I read that Suikoden 3 manga eventually. Like said 2013 comic book Lazarus, it also explores class warfare.
My tomboyish, half-Asian friend informed me some weeks ago that Suikoden 2 will finally be getting an adaptation. Good to know that Suikoden is no longer a niche franchise.
I too have also waited for Suikoden 6 (it's still possible to bring more life to this franchise and have it take place in a continent far east or west), but I'll save my anticipation for a Suikoden 2 anime. Definitely have Tomokazu Seki reprise his role as Luca Blight (though voiced this villain in a CD drama). The same guy who reprised his role in SEED Destiny and Freedom.
Having said that, I spent more time on Suikoden 2 than expected. Choosing 18 characters in Suikoden 2 for a fight against Luca Blight is a daunting task, costing me lots of gold to prepare them for a very serious battle. Zamza's stats are boring to me like Albert from Legend of Dragoon. I may not bother putting him in the front lines.
Spending gold on better armor, weapon upgrades and decent runes. Gotta wait until I get past Luca Blight before I can get better runes so I can cast better spells. Same with FFX which made me wait so long before I could get higher level spells. Eventually outclassed by Fire Breath and Aqua Breath as you progress with the story.
Magic in Ragnarok Online and other mmorpgs are most certainly more powerful (my shinkiro did harsh blows with ninja magic or ninpo matching that of a sorcerer's Psychic Wave).
The 2013 Lazarus comic book would probably need renaming if it were to be adapted into anime. This comic reminds me subtly of The Punisher and that SNES game Brawl Brothers because of vigilantism. Characters taking the law into their own hands in a world where every major city has been corrupted beyond repair. The Lazarus comic portrayed Los Angeles as a fallen, impoverished city (unlike Gotham, no hope of recovery or order after all that chaos). California is still messy sure, just not as impoverished as shown in said indie comic. Still fated to be that messy with urban decay though so a super high maintenance state indeed.
As for other video games, I look forward to playing Korean action RPGs. Meanwhile in Japan, no plans of making lots of new JRPGs and why play Tales of Xillia remastered when I can just emulate the original Japanese copy?
I would play Tales of Xillia in Japanese like I did with Wild Arms 2. So yeah! Korean action RPGs are like all the rage. I would sure love to play one that's potentially similar to Evergrace.
By the time Bethesda makes Elder Scrolls 6, Korea will release lots more competitive action RPGs.
As for Gundam, I rather re-watch Wing than Witch From Mercury. Why some people dropped Gundam Wing is beyond me and I re-watched it the second time before I re-watched Madlax which grew on me as an adult. My friends around 40 also prefer Wing to Witch From Mercury. Even the SEED Freedom movie as of last year is better because of those household names like Rie Tanaka, Kotono Mitsuishi and even Houko Kuwashima (the best Isara Gunther besides Laura Bailey). Shame that Megumi Toyoguchi didn't get much of a role though, but at least Maaya Sakamoto reprised her role as Lunamaria Hawke.
With that said, I've been watching Lazarus which at one point, I thought was going to be an adaptation of that dark indie graphic novel of a similar name, but at least its themes are very different. Not about class warfare and urban decay, but good enough.
As for Twilight of the Spirits , I'll definitely check emulate it after Legend of Dragoon. Its got quite an interesting battle system. I don't care what traditional gaming media like Metacritic (them giving a failed AAA title that flopped in Japan called FF7 Rebirth that high reception is fake and stupid) thinks. I'm glad that PS2 game aesthetics have been brought back by indie developers. It is far from outdated. I prefer those janky aesthetics to that of more AAA games (what is so aesthetically pleasing about Assassin's Creed, Avowed, Overwatch clones or modern remakes?).
Glad to see that you enjoyed the exploration part of Hogwarts Legacy. Now I want to check it out. Definitely sounds like the best Harry Potter game since EA's Sorcerer's Stone adaptation (I was intimidated by that enchanted mobile armor boss swinging it's big sword before fighting Voldemort around a mirror).
As for Rurouni Kenshin, I think that it's worth keeping and I hope that it'll stay with you forever despite being paperback like other graphic novels or magazines. Worth keeping because of its themes it explores. I think that you should take your time to re-explore that classic manga. I would definitely buy it along with notable indie comics that I've been itching to read after researching.
Aside from Macross, that supertomboyish friend of mine in her late 30s I mentioned before would love to see newer space opera movies on the big screen. Exploring the themes of Saga or Paper Girls than those of Star Wars (overcommercialized and bloated franchise despite Obi-Wan or The Mandalorian's success). I would also like to see space westerns comics get adaptations. Whether in movie, anime (even OVA adaptations of new space westerns would be nice) or TV show format.
What will it take for anime to get a sci-fi explosion once again like in the 80s? that's what I've been thinking for a while now. Space opera goes further than Star Wars and Gundam.
So yes! The advantage of graphic novels is abundance and expansion. There are more cyberpunk graphic novels than ever before exploring new themes than their mainstream counterparts in other media.
Anyway Kyoko! Whatever laptop you have is capable of running the totally free, Shining Moon Ragnarok server anytime with Korean server goodies included. Of course more modern Korean mmorpgs can be demanding of hardware, but I'll explore them later to see if there are rogue and ninja classes available. You might also love the old-school assassin class in Ragnarok that also got great improvement this decade.
You have a good, I mean magnificent day too Kyoko-fujin. I hope that you'll receive an MSI laptop someday or somehow. Even though Dell, Acer or Asus have shown great improvement.
As for Back To School Day, I think that you deserve the MSI Titan GT77 HX or equivalent laptop. For 4K streaming and for emulating Naruto games.
Graphic novels-wise, I'm really itching to read East of West (dystopian western) and Black Science.
I haven't played it yet, but it looks pretty cool.
Yes, do take your time. In the meantime, I'll be improving my Japanese reading. Gotta read something at least 20 minutes a day.
I also got my magic ninja promoted shinkiro in Shining Moon, doing a great job keeping up with kRO trends. It's never too late for you to try the ninja class or going the way of shiranui. Yes, other Korean mmorpgs have ninja classes too, but I love how ninjas improved in Ragnarok Online after 20 years. The incomplete manhwa Ragnarok got canceled before the ninja class was implemented in its sequel.
At least GungHo (the parent company of Grandia developers) and Gravity helped extend the story of said old manhwa. It's interesting they decided to make the adaptation of Ragnarok in the same year Bee Train made Dot Hack Sign.
As we can see, the future of online games are on PC and not that VR platform like in Dot Hack. That or sci-fi.
Speaking of Grandia, you might love the fact that Kappei Yamaguchi was the voice of Rapp. You guessed it, the voice of Usopp and Inuyasha. Much more enjoyable with Japanese voices.
I wish that Game Arts could make more games sometimes.
I prefer the OG FF7 because I prefer turn-based combat. Same reason I played Grandia, Valkyria Chronicles, Zoids Assault, Arc The Lad stuff and Alter Code f, the greater remake. I also prefer FF7's original script, more mature and the only FF7 where suicide occurs. I rather beat Ruby Weapon or do chocobo races over again than to do Rebirth's minigames. Alter Code f had better minigames as a remake (I still love those Puzzle Boxes).
I hope that a new Macross movie will come out this year, it's up to the anime industry to decide. Would definitely be great to see Vic Mignogna do Hikaru again. We'll just have to wait for creative sectors to recover from last year's slump. Can't wait to see how the animation of a new Macross movie will compare to SEED Freedom as of late. Some of my busy friends are still dying to watch that continuation of SEED (I love Houko Kuwashima and Maaya Sakamoto).
I have yet to play Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, but I would definitely enjoy it like the masterpiece that is Arc The Lad 2.
Nihongo-wise, I'm still on section one of Duolingo because of repetitive exercises, including that hiragana stuff I already know, but at least I was able to memorize common Japanese sentences than I ever did with subbed anime. Duolingo like Ragnarok Online is pay to win stuff and I don't have enough money to pay for dozens of those hearts (have to do repetitive exercises for making a slight mistake from being tired). I decided to do one section per language and then read more books. So yeah, I'll just read Genki II and other books after finishing section one Japanese on Duolingo. One section is too much to cover on a budget. Nobody told me I had to pay to get a lot of chances, but at least my pronunciation and Japanese verbal skills improved.
Too much play to win stuff in Duolingo like the international Ragnarok Online server. Telling me that I gotta pay to get those in-game niceties (like that soul-sucking hat for fast HP recovery). I forgot that Japanese Youtuber with the traditional Japanese getup had to pay for such Duolingo niceties so he could get through sections faster.
As for Lunar: Silver Story, it was better than a DQ or Dragon Warrior clone. More emotional storytelling than Dragon Quest games themselves. Emotionally on par with FF7, Digital Devil Saga, Star Ocean 2 (those innocent people that died in a calm port town from an engineered cataclysm) and Arc The Lad 2 (where I felt Elk's pain as a small child).
I've been delving into Lunar, Arc The Lad 3 and Duolingo.
Speaking of video games, that's Motoko from the 1998 Ghost in the Shell game with Toshihiro Kawamoto's character designs. He's the reason why Major in that game looks like Faye Valentine. The closest thing to a Ghost in the Shell anime with Masamune Shirow's actual artstyle.
Having said that, I'm excited to move on to the next level in Duolingo. Trying to get past basic Japanese stuff.
Happy Year of the Snake, by the way.
I'm still looking forward to reading Paper Girls, Saga and Black Science while waiting for a new Macross movie to come out.
I hope that Vic Mignogna will get a new role or reprise his role as Hikaru once again, the Macross main man.
Hikaru is too good for Minmay anyway and Lacus Clyne is basically the improved version of that anime space pop princess.
