I know you won't respond to this because you don't want to spam my comment board, although it is 100% ok to do so. I just wanted to say that I honestly thank you for this delightful interaction, hadn't had this much fun in this website for some time.

You are right though in criticizing me with saying "there is nothing wrong with self-insertion fantasies" but then grading it harshly just because it is. I guess there is nothing wrong with enjoying these fantasies, but as I am not enjoying them, I will criticize it. I just won't judge if you do.

We will agree to disagree with the rest, even if I think for future occasions that saying "your reading of the movie was dumb" isn't the most insightful comment. And I do understand sarcasm, but you get so worked up it is fun to tease you.

In my opinion, even if what you state is true (which we could argue about, as I still think that Sakura didn't need to have someone as blandless as the MC by her side in her last months on this earth), my self insert comment still holds. Most people that consume this media format are pretty reclusive, and seeing how little personality the MC has, he is the perfect vessel for a lonely guy watching anime to live vicariously through him.

You are also right in your proclamation of "I have to ask what character is not self-insertion at this point", because I agree with you. Most main characters ARE self insertion, this medium is designed as escapism fantasies first and foremost.

I don't pretend to be a genius at media literacy (although thank you for thinking I had the award in the first place), but I do like to see the trends that arise in this format and compare them to the people consuming said media.
