Hello! I really appreciate the recommendations, and they are mostly great recommendations. I've decided that "Hakubo" definitely does qualify, and I am halfway through "Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei." The latter too will make the list if it keeps the same vibe.

However, I've decided to exclude "ef - A Tale of Memories" because of the "depth" of the romance. It is a romance, and characters do have their "issues," but the personal issues of the characters mostly overtake the romance witout any recovery moments for the romance to bloom with enough power in the show. Shows like "NHK ni Youkoso!" and "Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia" also give a lot of screentime to the characters' personal issues, but also have high points of great romantic intensity or focus—this is the stuff that makes your heart flutter, and what romance fans yearn for. So I am leaving out the show that, unfortunately, you described in the most detail.
