Happy Birthday, Oscar! However old you get (or feel) you're never too old for anime ;)

Wowza, I wasn't expecting such an in-depth reply. I'm not trying to wriggle out of giving a full reply but I am in agreement with most of what you're saying. The two Progressive movies do feel a bit like Aincrad recap movies (like the first 2 Madoka movies) with the superfluous/non-essential content edited out (I did miss seeing Yui, although she may appear in future movies) and the main crux of the story buffed with better visuals and more dynamic action sequences. The 2 movies were OK but the proper SAO seasons have a lot more depth and variety in them, and a much wider range of interesting characters. I think a new proper season, like an adaptation of Unital Ring would be a real treat for long-time fans, and will be something more substantial content-wise to really get absorbed in.

And I'm in agreement with what you're saying about AOT and how it mirrors aspects from societies and ideologies in previous eras as well as some regimes in the modern world - where there is brainwashing and indoctrination as well as dehumanization of the other side based on religious, cultural, racial, or political differences. And in addition to this ideological and historical side of the story, there is also an exciting action and adventure saga with lots of thrills and twists and revelations to keep the viewer engrossed and entertained. I hope you're satisfied with the absolute ending of the story - unless there's a spin-off somewhere down the line. It's sad that it's had to come to an end (after all the trials and tribulations), but at least it wasn't dragged out for too long or to the point where the production quality or writing started to slide. I think that maybe it did go out at just the right time, when it was at its peak and at the high of its influence and esteem. I'm not sure when we'll get to see something of that magnitude again in mainstream anime, but even if we don't, we'll still have lots of smaller things to keep us occupied and entertained for the foreseeable future. Like you said in your first paragraph, whatever personal upheavals or struggles we're going through (and all of us on MAL probably will at sometime, in our own unique ways) - we will always have anime to comfort or uplift us, to give us hope or motivation, and to help get us through. I'm older than you are, and for the past 12 years that's the way it's been for me. Anyway, I hope you had a good birthday and will continue to enjoy anime for a long time to come!
