Tsk, tsk, tsk. Nothing's wrong with keeping what you love close to you, kaveri.
Yeah, I heard that recovery from SSDs is complicated and even more so if it's an NVME. I prefer external bricks for storage anyways, even better if they have a bit of shock resistance (even if it's pretend). I do think about getting a NAS one day that supports RAID with extra bells and whistles, but that day is yet to come.
Slam Dunk? I don't think I could handle a sports anime. I mean, I watched like 8 episodes of Yuri on Ice back in the day just to see what was the whole hype about. Years later I'll balance it out with horse racing, lol.
Anyways, I tried out Votoms, but sad to say that I didn't stick around for long. I liked the overal setting and premise and I'd definitely like to see something akin to this in different execution (weirdly, once again I'm seeing the main character encountering a woman in a crate, hello Outlaw Star), but just couldn't get behind the characters and pacing. I did see some fragments from Shining Heresy, and yeah, animation definitely improved, but overall it just doesn't fly with me.
HDD death is a personal nightmare of mine, one I'm hoping to never encounter. Recently managed to free a few Tb worth of space in my archives, actually. Being a bit of a data hoarder, it can take years getting around to actually sort stuff.
I liked the part about 86 that shows the corruption and cruelty, and the way the republic just stripped entire populations of their rights and conscripted them to die in unwinnable battle. Compared to some other portrayals of the military, this one, I guess, feels like a breath of fresh air, and that the creators were actually willing to consider this kind of approach and did alright portraying it. Season 2 is going much slower for me, but I enjoyed the first one. I was worried they'd go your usual anime protagonist route with the main guy, but they mostly avoided it.
Dungeon Meshi, oh boy, I did try reading the manga like six or seven years ago and tried again over the years. Still feel like I have to, because the art is indeed great, but somehow the anime just clicked with me. I was afraid Trigger would pull some stunt with it, but I liked it a lot. The Seyiuus worked really well, and all that monster cooking and funny faces really shone in the animation.
I liked Laios, again, because he's different from your run-of-the-mill adventure anime protag and gets to do what he feels like doing, even with all his quirks and turbulent life. And as a person, he feels really earnest, and that part in Marcille's nightmare really solidified it for me. I wouldn't say he is my #1, I didn't really count his position in my MAL favourites corner, but I liked him in the show a lot, or at least enough to leave a lasting impression. I guess that's how I fill my lists here.
I do like when something I read or watch has a 'vibe', but I can imagine why what you described can fail to excite a person beyond just showing a premise. I'm not a fan of the cold war in different decorations and quite a lot of times when there is an 'empire' in animes they all look pretty similar.
Listening to the VOTOMS ED is really like hearing something from another time, I'll give you that. I'll check the title out later. Dougram has an interesting premise, but it does look dated. Still interesting, though. Makes me think about Battletech, although I never dipped my toes into it. I like different presentation of mecha across genres, but, regretfully, don't have as much exposure with it overall. Gen 4 AC, although, was one hell of an experience. Shame that all the lore material is in Japanese still and never received a translation.
Also, I guess from the modern ones I've seen - 86 was pretty good.
Yamato is also from Leiji Matsumoto, same as Galaxy Express. Heard a few good things about Captain Harlock and that he ties the two together. I'll check out VOTOMS and Dougram, actually sounds like something I'd want to watch. I don't really mind the slow, just the contents of it. LGH is also on my backlog, but speaking of Gundams, I was planning to see The 08th MS Team. If it's anything like Thunderbolt, It's going to be enjoyable. And it does sound like Vietnam, although I know jack about the timeline.
Giant Gorg and Xabungle, tho, gonna be a hard pass, I'm a afraid. Just not my thing. But speaking of old and giant robots, On occasion I've been trying to find the old Voltron(?) series I've actually watched back when there were cassette tapes. No luck so far.
From the top of my head? Maybe Angel's egg, but I'm not sure if it's obscure enough. I need to rewatch it, been a long time, but it may be too much on the surface for you. Haibane Renmei is an interesting one that I've been trying to get in the proper mood & place to watch. I think there was some extra manga epilogue I saved somewhere, but I can't find it. Same case with Lain. Same case with Alien 9, lol.
I always have fond memories of Mardock Scramble, but it was more dark and disturbing, rather than weird, and it did have some sex stuff.
I feel like that's a frequent case with reviews. I normally abstain from them, but sometimes feel like saying a few (somtimes) strong words about this and that. On the second point - yeah, that's what I like about mal profiles and different tastes, getting recs for your backlog is much more exciting this way. I did notice you watched the galaxy express, which I've been on the fence about.
Dunbine was laying around on my hard drive collecting dust and I was wondering if I should give it a go, as I try to keep an eye on the older, longer shows with a style and special feel to them. Like Outlaw Star or maybe some Gundams, Appleseed, Lodoss, etc. Your profile seems like a trasure trove for older titles.
Not sure how much will mine be of interest, though!
Autistic you say?? Sounds interesting I’ll put in a request for it at the library tomorrow. Thanks for the rec and my bad for not seeing this until 2 years later lol as you could see I haven’t had any comments on here since then until yesterday, so I’m just seeing this now. Tbh the MAL iOS app still confuses me to this day

About Votoms...maybe I'll return to it later.

Saw your review for Seisenshi Dunbine and found your profile pretty cool.
