How’s your day going so far?

Hey Mel! Great to finally meet you. ^^

Well I'm currently on a 550+ day streak since I stopped using the app a few times before due to inconsistency and lack of diligence to learn. However, ever since they implemented Kanji in the app (being able to learn what they look like, how they sound, how to use and draw them), logging on every day has been much easier and has even become a habit. I've even learned how to more or less use the Japanese keyboard on my phone thanks to Duolingo!

I'm glad that you agree that kanji is tough even though it's your second language. My initial goal when I first started learning Japanese was to be able to watch anime without subtitles. It has evolved since then to being able to read, write and have everyday conversations with Japanese people with only a few difficulties. It would be great to do so when I go to Japan one day. いつか日本に行きたいです. The only thing I'm really lacking in is grammar, 文法. I'll work on it once I have enough kanji under my belt.

Well hopefully I'll one day be able to take the exam and get on official N3, or even N2, certificate. That should be enough for day to day conversations in Japan, right? It's going to take time, a whole lot of patience and time but it'll all be worth it since I was able recently to speak to Japanese people with the bottom of the barrel Japanese that I have (5 years of anime, Duolingo, アニソン and now YouTube videos with english subtitles). I completely surprised myself to the extent to which I understood most of the conversations they had, well the key words at least. That's definitely give me the boost of confidence I needed to complete this Japanese exercise book that contains over 500 of the "most important" kanji to learn that I've meaning to tackle for the past 2 years.

I'll try and memorize at least 175 of the kanji with the time I have left for summer vacation. It may be demanding, fastidious and frustrating at times but now I at least know that it'll all be worth it!
