My ratings are based on personal resonance, emotional impact, narrative structure, thematic depth, characterization and characters' psychological complexity, artistic expression, and utilization of the medium from a directorial standpoint.

These are some elements that I like to see in anime:

1. Edgy
2. Fighting a corrupt government/authority
3. Problematic MC (R*pist/Pdf)
4. Psychological Trauma/Suffering MC
5. Historical (Especially WW2)
6. Neet/Hikiko MC
7. Complex fragmented narrative structure/Mindf*ck
8. Thematic and Subtextual Depth

I rarely watch shows and I generally prefer VNs over anime, but I think some directors' utilization of anime can make the two mediums equal.
