Watch the anime since it's very well done, and then read the manga afterwards from the point where the anime ends, it goes into the Toyotomi invasion of Korea. I don't think it's been all scanlated but it's been some years since I checked.

Well it focuses on, for westerners, an obscure trio of historical characters (Oribe Furuta, Tadaoki Hosokawa and Sen no Rikyuu) who have very artistic minds. It didn't click for me at first with the characters obsessing over clay- and lacquerware and such but then I realized there's aesthetic things I'm spergy about myself so I get why it was made.

I was checking out your profile while trying to find a show to recommend, and I’m curious—Is “Anne of Green Gables” really that good? I've seen a lot of people give it a perfect 10 rating. I might have to watch it sometime. It’s nice that it’s available on YouTube.

Hi, I can relate to wanting to finish something even if it's poorly written - Macross 7 comes to mind! terrible sequel to orignal series , but i still like it

1. Mecha pilots: You might like Escaflowne - the movie soundtrack is some of the best anime music, and I have the DVD box set with the CD, which I play all the time.

2. Apocalypse: Blue Gender is pretty good. I remember having some issues with the ending, but I think the movie ironed out the kinks.

3. Space operas: Since you've seen Gunbuster, you might enjoy Diebuster. I thought it was alright, but the ending was satisfying conclusion with original

4. Western frontier: Gun Frontier is a great choice for a Western setting, and Gun X Sword is also a good option.

5. Guerrilla war settings: Spriggan is a great series, although the anime was poorly animated. I'm not sure about the Netflix version, but I've finished the manga, and it's a great military series. Geobreeders is another fun and crazy series that reminds me of Gunsmith Cats."

If you have a basic understanding of the Warring States period in Japan then Hyouge Mono is a very novel autistic take on it (but also good)

It started ok but then it went kind of nowhere. A shame really.

Agree. Tho I think Oshii has missed a bit of his golden touch lately. He needs some inspiration do something special again

Yah, Oshii's unique take is a bit missing, isn't it. That's why the early Urusei Yatsura films are some of my favorite anime of all. He had so much more freedom to take things into a unique territory.

Thank you for your kind words. I have been enjoying Urusei Yatsura quite a bit. It's pretty true to the original manga and the Oshii series and the art and animation are just gorgeous. Though I have to admit that some of the humour and character dynamics do feel a bit dated in 2023. But not so much so that I wouldn't be having a blast anyway.
