Sadly, I haven't found as many anime films I've really enjoyed as with series. There are some films which I loved for their visuals like Metropolis, Redline or Belladonna, but I didn't find their stories to be as appealing and with Belladonna despite liking the art I had some qualms with the visual direction. On top of that I'm kind of running our of films that aren't directly tied to series like the Urusei Yatsura (which would be more Oshii anyways) or the Macross movie.

You mentioned in the last 3x3s that I lack variety among my favorites. Mind elaborating that a bit or suggest what types of titles I could try to expand into?

Well "nothing happening" is a figure of speach, I mean people could say the same about Mushi or Aria which are shows I enjoyed. It's really hard to pinpoint but I know I just felt like each episode dragged on and ten minutes in I would wait for it to end. But again, I heard people saying the exact same stuff about Aria or Mushishi, so I'm not sure myself why that is. I'm happy to hear it took you a couple of years though, I'm pretty sure it took my about a month or two which I thought was really slow. Maybe I should just take that even further.

Though to be honest I do like when characters need to confront some hardships before they can attain some type of of serenity or happiness, lots of my favorite shows are to a large extent about that, like eva, utena, tatami or kaiba.

Well, I'm not really an Iyashikei fan myself. Even Mushishi I like for the fact that it actually mixes in the more disturbing and creepy with the calm and mundane. Other ones like Aria or Sora attracted me more with its setting and by mixing in some drama to disturb the harmony from time to time. Anyways, guess I'll try out the second season some day and just take it slow, knowing more od what to expect this time. I did somewhat enjoy the artsy aspects in it, plus people always tell me the next seasons are better o there must be something to it.

And I did like Miyako's character.

I'd agree actually, but I think it just went overboard with those. For example moments of comic relief were fine especially in the first half, but then having whole comical episodes was a bit too much for me (like the one with the elephants). I didn't have a problem with the repetitive imagery but more the narrative as you mentioned. I mean 33 episodes of those did drag on a bit. Black Rose arc especially, I acknowledge the fact that the episodes gave us lots of insight into the characters psychology (I loved the elevator metaphors btw), but it did kind of feel like the show was repeating itself. I don't want to make it sound as if I hated the show, it's just that the more I admire a show the more I'll look at its flaws, especially with a rather ambitious show like Utena.

On another topic, I'd like to ask you about Hidamari Sketch. It's common among 3x3s and I realized you gave it a high rating. Thing is I saw the first season and I was bored to death, I felt this is literaly a show about nothing. I mean even though I'm not a fan of moe, slice of life shows I don't really have anything against them. But at least most of the ones I've seen had some interesting or enjoyable aspect to them, Aria and Sora no Woto had an enchanting setting while Joshiraku, Nichijou and Lucky Stars had humor. Even K-on was somewhat pleasant to watch. But with Hidamari I felt like literally nothing happened, I was bored throughout most of it and this show has like four season! So basically, is there some sudden change in the next seasons? Or am I missing something? I mean I actually enjoy most anime I watch and this one is one the few I just couldn't.

Fair enough, for me Utena was not so much lacking but a bit inconsistent. It felt repetitive at times and tended to overuse humor to the point of ruining the mood during more serious/dramatic moments. It's like a diamond with these little scratches here and there, a "flawed masterpiece". I love it though and the ending eps (up from 34 I think) were some some of the most magnificent episodes in any anime I've seen.

Damn, seems so. Thanks for the reply.

Btw, why not 10/10 for Utena? It's among your top five and other shows that aren't have higher scores.
