So, I was clearing out my notifs and realized I never responded to this. I'M THE WORST. T_T

I thought it was a really cute story and was so invested in it. I should reread it again... and yea! Just sometimes a crop looks so good it's hard to replace, haha...

HMMMM. Favorite or least favorite challenges... I actually really loved the Staff collections (including from other clubs/AWC), even if I haven't done a lot of them. It's really interesting to see the wide variety of things people watch and suggest and some hidden gems people are into. Probably least favorite are the ones that are the Top xxx or Bottom xxx anime because of how they can change and potentially have things that are tied into other long periods. But!! I also enjoy that in an odd way, too?? Just rough when a few things are holding back because of a couple entries or things mix up right when you think you might be done. (Staring weakly at Top Movies with the later Conan movies in there...)

But generally I enjoy the challenges even the "least favorite" ones. Especially since the staff and everyone have put in so much effort into making these!!

How about youuuu?

Hi Jadey! I wish I had the strength to reply right away but work is eating up my time and energy ☹ I was really happy to hear from you though!

We are exactly on the same boat (in more ways than you may think)! I've always had a hard time dealing with the heat, but it only got worse after I started taking beta-blocker pills to prevent my daily migraines. It's not ideal to say but I rather suffer from migraines than these side effects. It doesn't help that every year it gets hotter and hotter! My favourite season is Spring. My favourite day of the year also happens to be during this season. It's supposed to be chilly outside but sunny at the same time which to me it's the perfect combo. But sadly, I feel like we don't have spring season anymore (climate change sucks!). Oh if I must choose a second fav season I’d go for Autumn too 😊

I could tell you have a creative mind! I don't think it was a hasty decision though, taking photography classes was right for you at that moment and honestly if you have the means for it, it's better to study something you are passionate about. Going for library science now sounds awesome! Is there a specific reason for that change? Do you want to work at a local library perhaps? Tell me more!

I did go to university, you are right! but back then I didn’t have anything I was passionate about. I used to take art classes after school, but I felt like I wasn’t good enough, you know, impostor syndrome and all that jazz (even though I loved drawing). I also enjoyed taking Psychology, Sociology, Meteorology and Technical Drawing as electives in high school, but I ended up going to uni to study an engineering degree. I was told time and time again it made sense for me... but that wasn’t true at all. That’s why I felt so miserable even though I was getting good grades. I always say I should have chosen architecture or interior design but when I changed careers, I decided on literature and translation studies instead. Not my brightest moment but honestly, I had such an enjoyable time I don’t regret it. I was surrounded by so many interesting people and I learned a lot about the world and myself and that’s something I still treasure to this day. We’ve all walked different paths in life; there’s no right or wrong answer!

And yes! I live in Barcelona. I’ve been to many cities and towns around Europe, but nowadays everywhere you go is super crowded no matter what time of the year you go visit. But don’t be discouraged! There are so many hidden gems out there ready for you!

Don’t worry about oversharing stuff with me hahaha to be fair I think we are both doing that 😊 I also feel burnt out quite easily that’s why I usually don’t read many manga or watch many shows during this time of the year. My mind can’t keep up because of the heat and it’s hard to focus or feel any joy at all. It’s always the same cycle, I start the year strong and accomplish a lot of what I want to do, but then June comes and I have to hit pause on everything. I think I’m going to think more about the recs and send you a new reply soon. Sadly, 90’s manga tend to have some problematic themes so I have to be careful of what to recommend to you! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed Answer Me, My Prince! You make me want to re-read it!

Don’t feel pressured to reply or to address everything I say or ask. I also feel grateful you want to keep chatting with me. I’m here if you need to vent anything or just chat 😊
nyanko May 29, 11:55 AM
Life happens! I don't mind slow chatter. (I just so happen to have some downtime at the moment so I can properly respond here... lol)

There can be some really surprising anime out there that I might have skipped if I avoided certain genres and titles. A lot of hidden gems to be found. :D I also know I can be kind of hard to rec things for since I seem to be hit and miss on what I'll like. And no worries at all about not starting it yet! It'll still be around when you get to it. <3

Oooo, that's gorgeous. I'll have to look out for it. As for mine, it's from a Manhua called Jingjiu (Salad Days). I love the art in the series and I've considered switching my pfp, but I love how the frame looks so much.

Thanks, I appreciate it and I hope life calms down for you, too!
gingermoon May 22, 3:36 PM
It's a mandatory thing to say but I'm really sorry for the late reply! I think since my birthday I've been feeling mentally drained and depressed (I believe it's summer blues xD). Oh, don't worry about it though, I just happen to see it was your birthday which made me happy to add to the list of things we have in common. May is a beautiful month!

You mentioned photography classes and graphic design, so I wonder... what did you study in college? You seem quite creative and artsy as well :) it makes sense that you like the art style in Veil or that you are interested in fonts and all that aesthetic vibe. I don't really have a favorite style but I do like my 90's manga haha idk what it is but there's something special about it! I do admit that art style in manga has been really good and detailed lately. I'm interested in reading Yoake no Uta just for how good the art looks haha

If you want to do a backpacking trip around Europe you should think of spending many months on vacation. You can't possible see much even if you are staying for a few weeks in just one country. Just pick whichever country interests you the most and see from there! It also depends on the time of the year you go travelling. I remember when I first went to Berlin omg it was winter time and everything was so grey and sad... I thought it was such a depressing city. I bet it would've been a totally different vibe during spring/summer. The brain is such a funny thing... xD If you ever come to Barcelona, don't just go to the city. One of my favorite places to go hiking is la Fageda d'en Jordà (up north). It's a beech forest surrounded by volcanoes... walking through that tall forest when I was a kid felt like I was in a fairytale. There are many medieval towns that are worth visiting too! But it all depends on what kind of places you'd like to visit. This is the age-old dilemma of "mountain or beach vacation"? haha

Hope you have been doing well!
nyanko May 14, 9:16 PM
I'm so sorry that this is so late... T_T this last while has been really stressful for me, so I've been pretty checked out of social things.

HMMM. What I'm usually into... there's a lot?? I don't really have too many things I don't enjoy for genres, but it seems I'm not as big of a fan of like most Ecchi and CGDCT, but there are exceptions to those, too. But I'm really willing to try anything, since I have a lot of different things that have come as a surprise to me for enjoyment. I also have just Weird Tastes sometimes and it's hard to figure out what I'll like, lol.

Also!!! I was wondering what your icon is? I'm thinking I know, but I'm not sure.
gingermoon May 10, 8:53 AM
Happy birthday fellow taurus!! 🥳 hope you are having a wonderful day! Any plans for today?

It was a trip to Japan. I promised someone to go with them but they couldn't make it this time, so we cancelled the trip. It's okay though, I'm sure there'll be a next time! What about you? Since you mentioned Montana, have you ever been outside the US? About the comic/manga store, if you ever go to Barcelona there is this big one called Norma Comics. First floor is all comics and the ground floor is exclusively for manga. Whenever I'm in the area I go and take a look just to see what's new.

Choosing what to read/watch based on your mood and the vibes you are looking for instead of forcing yourself to finish something you are not enjoying is actually ideal. That's the way to enjoy your hobbies! haha does the art style also influence your enjoyment? I feel like it's such an important aspect for me... Visually pleasing or really unique, that pulls me in way more.

The official challenges are really helpful to make you read/watch things you've put in your list for a long time haha I see you are going for the hardest difficulty with your anime challenge! Is it going well? I could never do that... I started doing the anime yearly challenge back in 2020 to narrow my PTW list because I couldn't see myself watching anything. But for the manga challenge, I always go for the hardest level since I prefer reading manga and it's a great push to discover new gems. Good luck on all your challenges but take it easy!

Your tracker post looks really neat and well organized! That must have been a lot of work. I thought of posting there before but ultimately I decided to go the easy way of using a blogpost with the linked banners haha I'm not sure if you were asking for this, but for the font I'm using Constantia, If you mean this
it's a banner from the club, baby blocks courtesy of SheyCroix.

Once again, have fun and enjoy your day! :)
gingermoon May 6, 4:39 AM
Congrats!!! 🎉 You did a good job :) Enjoy your free time now and do as much as you want to do! haha thinking of going back to work is making me feel depressed (it doesn't help it's that time of the month too). Honestly I'm not mad about the trip, next time I'll go for sure!

A couple of days ago I went to a big comic/manga store in my city and I saw the cover of a volume of Veil. It had like a spiral staircase I think? it made me think about our convo, that it was fate telling me something, perhaps? I should give it a shot, as you said.

I'm doing both manga and anime yearly challenges, and some others from both clubs. I have all the links in separated blog posts, you can take a look if you want Manga / Anime I think I started doing the yearly challenges back in 2017 but I never got to actually finish them. I got more consistent in 2020 and I've been participating and completing them every single year since then. What about you? What are you working on?
gingermoon Apr 30, 3:12 PM
No need to apologize! I can relate actually, my week started in a weird way but now I can finally enjoy some days off :)

Back in 2017 I probably changed my profile/forum set every month but now it's more like once a year xD I don't have the time anymore! The concept of Veil can guide you on what to do with your profile, not just your pfp. I've read just now in the review section that it is quite colorful and the art is stunning! I've definitely seen that title before but I've always thought it was about fashion/models, I guess I was wrong!

You brought me back to when I first read Answer Me My Prince! The banter was exquisite and it left me with such a warm and fuzzy feeling. It's like I was spying on them, witnessing such intimate and cute flirtatious interactions... I'm really glad you decided to start reading it and are enjoying it so far! Ohh, how I wish more people would read it too.
I can tolerate some gore if it makes sense for the story, don't worry! I know what I was getting myself into haha but you are correct, I will wait a bit to start reading it. At least till I know the ending is near.

I don't have any grand plans for summer. I do work almost all summer except a couple of weeks in July. I did have a trip panned for May but plans changed. What about you? Any plans? When are you done with your exams?
Marithe Apr 29, 8:04 AM
So I ended up reading both Old-Fashioned Cupcake and Old-Fashioned Cupcake with Cappuccino in the same night! I loved them both—the main characters are adorable, and I really liked the art style too.

On the other hand, I finally started reading Veil and—oh my god—the art style is so gorgeous. The little vignettes are incredibly stylish, and the story is just so cute. Every moment is full of tenderness! I’m completely in love with both characters. It’s such a unique manga—thank you so much for recommending it. I'm kinda mad at myself for waiting so long to start it, hahaha.

I’m not very good with social media—I know I have a Discord, but I honestly have no idea how to use it, lol. Maybe I should start practicing with these challenges xD

By the way, I started watching Lazarus (mostly because Cowboy Bebop is my all-time favorite and it’s the same creator), and so far I’m really enjoying it. Definitely a solid pick for this season.
gingermoon Apr 27, 3:19 AM
I've always found this odd to say but thanks for accepting my fr! I'm glad you can relate to what I said, I had a feeling we were of the same mind on that regard :) Isn't it really nice when you find hidden gems you wouldn't have found otherwise?

There's nothing to be embarrassed about! I don't find it bland at all but if you want to change it you can find inspiration in other people's profile and apply your own touch. There are countless posibilities! I've had so many variations during the years, some quite simple and minimalistic which are usually my favorites. You just need time and motivation! I like the concept of my previous pfp so I looked for the same composition but with a different light (as in a different time of the day). Mmm about your question, probably not an actual character that I'm aware of.

Oh btw, maybe you already know this but for the list design I used a customized version of Clarity from Valerio Lyndon's list designs. They are free to use and customize! I am going to change it to Clarify once I have the time to tweak the design.

I'm glad you find my recommendations helpful! I tried my best not to spoil anything xD If you do read any of those titles (in the future) let me know your thoughts! We may have similar taste but I think you are way more open to different genres than me haha Thank you for your recommendations too! You have a way with words and gave me the perfect push to start next My Reason to Die! I've seen those two titles before on the webtoon app but never knew what they were about. Definitely going to my ptr! I prefer reading finished webtoon/manhwa/manga in general (with very few exceptions) so I'll wait a bit but Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint sounds like something I would really like. Thanks!

Good luck on your final exams! Even if you find this time really stressful remember it's gonna be over pretty soon. Do your best and I'm sure it will turn out great! And then you can relax and do with your time whatever you want.
gingermoon Apr 26, 3:18 AM
Hi! No worries, I get it. I don't send fr that often and only accept those of people who I've talked to before or people with similar taste and fellow club members of anime/manga challenges. I guess I like my "Recent Friend Updates" to be some kind of recommendations section xD

I was actually editing my manhwa challenge entry when I came across your post. Ofc the first thing that caught my attention was your username and then I checked out your lists and found out you are also reading Maybe Meant to Be, which I don't know of anyone else who is also reading it. I think I've seen your username before in other challenges so I gave it a shot and sent a fr~

I don't have a clear favorite and I don't know your taste (yet) but I can give you a list of webtoons of different genres I enjoyed (in no particular order).

MAL entries:
  • Navillera: Like a Butterfly - Beautiful story about an elderly man who wants to try out his childhood dream before it's too late. I admit I cried a lot reading this but I would read it again (after a long time).
  • Marriage of Convenience - Controversial pick some may say but I enjoyed the story quite a lot. Historical romance done right, with beautiful art to complement the depth of the story.
  • Spirit Finger - This was a fun read. The start wasn't as promising but the story gets better and better along with the characters evolution. It's a cute school webtoon.
  • How to Become a Dragon - Not many people know of this one, but you may want to give it a chance! It's about friendship between humans and mythcal creatures and the journey to become a dragon! (Dragons like Haku from Spirited Away).
  • Trapped - This is a dark story. A twisted vampire romance with a strong-minded FL. Veeeery slow burn romance, but good suspense.
  • I Raised a Black Dragon - Loved the art! The matching outfits are chef kiss. The OG villainess is a real villain! I feel it needed some side stories though!

No MAL entries:
  • Answer Me My Prince - I can't say much without giving out the plot but it's such a wholesome story. The main characters magically exchange letters and become good friends. It's an impossible love story like anything I've read before.
  • Concubine Walkthrough - What a rollercoaster this was. Good game-insert sci-fi. Again, the art is one of its strong points, especiallly the color scheme and the historical outfits.

I tried recommending not-so-popular manhwa/webtoons but I hope you can find something from that list that picks your interest!
Marithe Apr 25, 8:15 AM
No worries at all—it’s a busy time of year for everyone!

I’ve added the BL to my PTR list. It’s short, so I’ll probably finish it in one night!

I’m not too thrilled about this anime season, to be honest—it's been kind of boring, haha. You’re not missing out on much. I’ve been more into manga lately, though I still need to catch up on a few that are on hold.

BTW, I’ve never tried the AWC challenge before 😮 Maybe I should give it a shot, hahaha.

Thanks! I didn’t do much for my birthday, to be honest. I’m one of those people who don’t really like celebrating, but my hubby surprised me with a Pandora bracelet and some cute charms. My family gave me some spooky ones too, so now it looks a lot fuller!

Marithe Apr 17, 2:32 AM
Hey! Sorry for the late reply (。•́︿•̀。)

Work's been pretty intense lately, so I haven’t had much time to read… But I did recently start Museru kurai no Ai wo Ageru (Chocking on Love) and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s currently on a one-month hiatus, but the 20 chapters that are out so far have been super engaging!

I’m also really into this season’s anime Kowloon Generic Romance. It’s visually relaxing, and the story has been pretty interesting so far. I’m thinking of reading the manga once the season ends to get a more detailed version of the story.

Have you seen or read anything cool lately?

(and ur profile pic is :flushed:)

Huehue, glad I was able to convince you to put up with me just that tiny bit more!

>.> I really don't do all that much work, i'm getting carried by all the other inspectors (don't tell them I'm stealing a wage over there :P). It's weird how insecure I am about it. I still make a ton of mistakes too, knowing i'm probably the inspector with the least amount of points ever? 28 Validated points over here! I'd like to contribute with some new badges in the future as well.

You're welcome! And thanks for accepting! You seem a real pleasure to talk to so I'd love to hit you up sometime!
