Adult. Gintoki enthusiast. Lifelong manga enjoyer who doesn’t watch much anime.
I prefer to read shojo and josei manga, and to search for hidden gems, but I'll still read anything that catches my interest.
Message me immediately if you know of a series about cute animals that’s not on my lists.
A fun fact about me is that I got my Blue Period artbook signed by the mangaka in 2024.

*: I haven’t watched the anime, but I’ve heard the song.
Note: I am not a Given fan, but I love the songs. I have also never watched Black Clover; I first heard the song in a store. 😅
Anime
• Watch Ikoku Nikki, Yatagarasu, Champignon no Majo, and Tamon-kun Ima Docchi
Manga
* Catch up on Snow White
* Finish all my secret santa recs
• I feel like my taste is really obvious if you’re aware of anything about the series in my favorites/Top 25. The biggest unifying elements are mystery, gag humor, and a healthy ratio of plot to slice-of-life moments. I love being emotionally destroyed, but it takes a LOT to get me there.
• Most shonen is trash, but on the rare occasion that it’s not, it’s almost always peak.
• I know I appear to have hyperfeminine taste, but I swear I’m actually a dude. Ask MAL user songbirdtayler; she knows me irl
• I have been “collecting” physical manga since 2009.
• BL is my most read and lowest rated genre…by far. I’m not the kind of person who needs it to be unproblematic and tame; in fact, I prefer the opposite. I just think most BL are terrible at portraying intimacy. Instead of trying to construct the appeal of a dynamic/couple or create natural chemistry through their writing, most authors rely on the assumption that the things they like will automatically be appealing without initiation or elaboration. This does not work for me whatsoever, for I don’t read BL for the boys, nor do I read it for the love—I am barely attracted to men; I like one, and that’s it. I just find the existence of the genre interesting. I was once on a quest to find enjoyable BL, but it was largely abandoned in May of 2022. Now I’m an educated hater. RIP.
• I would like to find more good yuri since I would enjoy it for more “normal” reasons than BL, but perhaps that’s exactly why I’m having such a hard time. I tend to prefer '90s-'00s yuri from josei magazines, but they are not licensed in English very often anymore. I dislike most of the more recent popular yuri.
• My first manga were Happy Happy Clover and Pokémon Adventures. I waited until I was 18 to start reading stuff that is actually meant for my age group because I’m quirky.
• I am most interested in shōjo and josei, but I haven’t read most of THE popular shōjo yet…because I don’t like romance enough to brave most of the high school romance ones. Oops.
• I respect books. I bore quickly watching shows. I think this explains my anime and manga statistics.
• I think that too much romance in literature is under-justified or under-explained. Most often this happens when the writing is rooted in fantasies that the authors don’t bother revealing the merit of because they’re hoping the readers will just have the same taste or experiences as them and therefore “get it”. I barely ship anything, either. I am trying to find good romance in manga as a result, or just interesting depictions of it, for almost no type of romance has that inherent appeal for me. I WANT to be moved by romance, but the writing has to be ON POINT. I have succeeded in this quest to some extent—my top 50 contains a few romance manga–but I’m still not satisfied. I’m not sorry for being picky; leave me alone!
• The longest manga I have ever binged was Hana-Kimi, and I can’t figure out why because it was not even good.
• I am totally not in love with all the women from Shirayukihime. Who told you that?
• I am most definitely not a rabid 銀土 shipper. Do not be fooled by their adjacency in my favorites! (They’re in the wrong order! 😉)
You're welcome~ Glad you're enjoying Penguin House! I started reading Nukozuke early on in its serialization, and forgot about it eventually (I should restart it again!). But now that you mention it, it is kind of similar because of the semi "dame-ningen" owner! XD
Cat Street is definitely a manga to set aside until you have time/or are in the mood for something serious, haha.
hi again! i read a few of the manga you recommended and they were fun :) my favorite was the concierge at hokyokku department!
i saved the rest for next year's reading challenge o7
By total accident, checking out stats on Doubutsu no Oishasan hahaha, and I saw it looks like we might have really similar taste, so I’d call that a lucky find! :D I’m always super happy to get new recommendationd. I’m planning to read Happy Happy Clover and Kanata Kara tho, but I’m always open to any other cute or cozy shoujo recommendations. And I can never get enough of heartwarming manga!
Oh ahahaha you saw that 🙂↔️ Thank you for all the reccssss. I haven’t read much lgbt stuff cuz all the popular ones I see are like bl written for fujos and I feel alienated reading them lol thats why I thought maybe this event would be a nice place to start and the elves got us matched perfectlyyy
HELLO HAPPY NEW YEAR THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT NICE TO MEET YOU
I READ LOVE MY LIFE AND IT WAS VERY CUTE
I also started nick and lever and I’m enjoying it so far! The manga we’ve read is so different but you read all these things that I’ve always wanted to get into but never knew what’s good or bad (also not a fan of highschool romance, ahaa). I saw in the elf message that the reccs you sent in other than the main 3 got deleted, I did the same to my recipient so they prob ended up the same LOL. I’ll be stalking your manga list and favourites for more recommendations after I finish these 3!
haha, I put any recent manga that I really liked into my favorites! :) although some of them are ones that I read last year because I haven't been good at keeping it updated lol
Hey there!
Thank you for being my secret (not secret anymore) Santa for the Manga recommendations!
I already finished "Yuki no Yousei", and it nearly got into my favorites. It was just so damn cute. As for "Kieta Hatsukoi", I nearly finished reading. I had to lough even when being sad. I think it's great. Didn't start the others yet, but I will read them for sure!
Your recommendations really made my day when I got them. They couldn't match my taste more perfectly!
Thank you very much and a happy new year!
ohhh i see! it's surprisingly easy to binge (but i was also in the mood for something lighthearted), i'll probably finish it today. i'll read the manga soon too because i want to compare the two. i'll let you know my findings then haha
Yesh! Haven't read to chapter 12 yet though so I haven't looked beyond that point this far.
He has a way with words and composure that just mesmerizes me so it's got the style and charm to make me love it.
Okay that's a pity. I think the scans should be a decent alternative indeed.
Thanks a lot :)
