Well,it has to do with the facts that Nana or Paradise Kiss animes just don't exist anymore..I mean there were some nice shoujo animes along the way but they died out eventually until the Fruits Basket remake revived it a bit.Kinda same with manga..it's hard to get into the newer shoujo mangas that are serialized in shoujo magazines since even on MAL they're barely known..unless it's a new one by author that did other mangas or shoujo genre in general in the past.

So what popular anime from the recent years/months you might consider to get yourself into then.

Yup..good luck with that goal of yours - seems like you enjoyed Given pretty well.It's probably the only BL like anime that is accepted kinda widely and even by males at certain times.The times where it was Junjou and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi having the spotlights are long gone though.
