Both movies raise theme of a supernatural forсe of nature facing the viceful human world – and both are great!
Each movie has a similar premise: a school kid meets a young, lively and ingenuous mythic water creature, and all the while the both develop a dear friendship, it also causes lots of pending danger for the said creature, as most humans don't appear to be bona fide.
Lu Over The Wall is generally a much more lighthearted story, while Summer Days with Coo has its good share of utterly heartwrenching scenes, yet both movies make you constantly hold your breath with worry for Coo or Lu's
