Makura no Danshi

Whispering sweet lullabies into the ears of the viewers, Makura no Danshi presents the watcher with an experience of comfort. Each short episode features a different boy who will listen to the audience and hold them when they need it.

There are boys to suit all tastes: Merry is a gentle brown-haired boy; Sousuke Tanaka is a mature working man; Kanade Hanamine is a high school student who acts tough, but is frightened by mere spiders; Eiji Kijinami is a sore loser who looks like a punk, but has a tender heart; the shy Ryuushi Theodore Emori loves stargazing; Yuu Maiki is a freshman with delusions of grandeur; Haruto Enokawa is an energetic 5-year-old who refuses to sleep without a bedtime story; Nao Sasayama is a hip college student that is addicted to his smartphone; Shirusu Mochizuki is a librarian that treasures both books and book lovers; Yonaga and Yayoi Chigiri are siblings who are learning flower arrangement; and Yuuichirou Iida is a humorous old man who runs an oden stall.

Though the watchers may be troubled with various issues in life, these boys will softly talk about themselves and coax the audience members into revealing their problems. All the boys have kind hearts and will make the viewers feel special and loved.

This is hilarious, please watch it.

An absolutely bizarre show that is so uncanny, gratuitous, and over the top, while still being subdued enough to not go completely off the rails and still maintain some sense of cohesiveness.

I thought it was going to be pure fanservice but it's definitely tongue in cheek and parodies a lot of anime and otaku tropes. My favorite parts where when the anime boys directly made fun of it's audience.

The storytelling dropping you in the middle of 2-3 minute scenarios was more like watching some funny improv as opposed to being just boys talking you to as you sleep, which it ... really isn't at all. And i'm glad, because it ended up being very funny.

Mixed Feelings

Makura no Danshi has a very specific aim (being a relaxation or sleep aid) and a very specific target audience. The format itself acts as a filter; if you're not someone who can get over that, just don't watch it.
The variety of characters is decent. If you're into men, you'll probably find at least one of them will appeal to you. Most of the characters are just archetypes, but there isn't any time or need for them to be more complex, given the show's incredibly short runtime. I found some of them charming or entertaining for the short while they were there.

Makura no Danshi ... is meant to be a sleep aid. I don't think I could actually fall alseep to it, but I could imagine someone using it as a way to relax before bed.

Overall, Makura no Danshi is fine. The show isn't long enough for it to feel like sunk time and if cute, short, slice of life roleplays with anime boys are your thing, you'll enjoy it.

I suddenly remembered this show after watching it in 2020 and got so angry about it I had to write a review.

The concept of this show is very silly and very catered to lonely people who want a relationship with attractive anime boys (so basically me in 2020). However, this show is completely RUINED for me when one of the "boyfriends" in the episode is A LITERAL 5 YEAR OLD. I kinda just skipped that episode back when I first watched this show and laughed about it being weird but now as an adult I'm just utterly disgusted. If I'm remembering correctly I believe they ... also describe him as "the sexy 5-year old" as well. Hey guys! That combination of words should never exist ever!

Anyways, show is fine minus that episode but for me it's honestly so egregious I cannot possibly enjoy the show at all.
