I don't think think this deserves the score it has. I came into this with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

The first twenty minutes or so I'll admit, are janky. A lot of the monster is cheap and un-scary, the animation is mediocre and the character's look like they came out of a shoddy 'how to draw manga' book, the premise is unoriginal.

I think way it shines is in how it does its premise and how it plays with viewer expectations. Most horror comes with an expectation of tragedy, death and suffering, and roots search has its share of that, but it's cut through ...

Pretty awful first impression, became better later on. The first few episodes are skits that don't lead into a plot, I found them kind of unpleasant. The humour itself was often quite predictable and relied on grossout (which I personally don't like), and as a parody of mecha, it didn't feel particularly poignant.

I didn't like Subaru on his own much. I think the first episodes could've established more about his character in earnest, and I think he works better when he's playing off of other characters.
The later episodes become more enjoyable as an 'overarching story' between Subaru and his brother (Isuzu) is introduced. While it ...

Extremely heartfelt with a main couple whose love just flies off the page. One of the sweetest BLs I've read. It shows how aging isn't necessarily bad or something to fear, how it brings with it change, showing the characters' relationship grow and adapt as they get older.
While their initial age gap (18 x 28) might be off-putting to some readers, I think it's handled well. Kazuhiko (the younger) is given a lot of autonomy. The couple is presented as very equal, which eschews some of the potential discomfort.

The main characters are endearing, I loved Makoto's push and pull with Kazuhiko. How Makoto worries ...

Makura no Danshi has a very specific aim (being a relaxation or sleep aid) and a very specific target audience. The format itself acts as a filter; if you're not someone who can get over that, just don't watch it.
The variety of characters is decent. If you're into men, you'll probably find at least one of them will appeal to you. Most of the characters are just archetypes, but there isn't any time or need for them to be more complex, given the show's incredibly short runtime. I found some of them charming or entertaining for the short while they were there.

Makura no Danshi ...
