Kitty's Paradise

There's not much to say about this Anime, but I'll do a review anyway.

Kitty's Paradise is the first anime from one of the most acclaimed studios, the Bones studio.
I honestly didn't believe when I saw it was their first work.

Everyone knows that Hello Kitty is a children's anime. In fact, extremely childish.
Many think that being childish is a defect for a work, but these people are wrong. There is anime for all audiences, the one for children is no different.

Kitty's Paradise is episodic, and each episode is an adventure in Kitty and Mimmy's imagination.
Each episode teaches something to the kids, and it's run in a ... somewhat expository way for the target audience. This anime wants to teach basic things to kids while they have fun watching.

Kitty and Mimmy are two very cute characters, and quite amusing at various times.
As they are sisters, it is natural that they fought for silly reasons, especially since they are children.

As a whole the anime is good, taking into account its purpose and target audience.

The witch episode gave me nightmares as a kid, and prevented me from engaging with the Hello Kitty franchise. That witch episode ruined me. I had nightmares for weeks Its eerie atmosphere and sudden tonal shift left me with lingering nightmares and completely alienated me from the Hello Kitty franchise during my formative years.
Looking back, the story was a bit of a tonal whiplash—what started as a gentle, comforting show suddenly dipped into unexpectedly dark territory. The episode stood out because it was unique, but not in a way I found enjoyable as a young viewer.

The art style, usually soft and cute, made the horror ... elements even more jarring. It felt like something creepy was hiding beneath the pastel visuals, and that mismatch made it stick with me (in a bad way). The characters didn’t really react in ways that made sense—there was an eerie calmness to their behavior that made the entire thing feel even more surreal and uncanny.

I think fans of cute horror or unsettling nostalgia might appreciate it in hindsight, but if you're showing it to kids, maybe skip that episode. It’s a niche kind of unsettling that some might love, but for me, it was too much.
