As a theater kid, I am absolutely enamored by the care both show puts into portraying theater through anime. The dynamics between the actors, the change of costumes etc etc. Love these two shows!

Both are a considerably more surreal and darker take on the story of the series they're based on. Altough Utena's film is an alternate continuity, Shoujo Kageki is a direct sequel. Yeah both are incredibly mind-screwing.

The central theme of both films is moving on. A lot of the characters are finally able to just have a normal* conversation with each other to voice out their feelings. and lastly, there is a lot of meta-commentary on each respective franchise.

Peak Ikuraha taste. Whirlwind of a story with visual allegories flying through the air, gorgeous character animation and heavily implied gay girls.

The Revue Starlight Movie made me think of Birth. - Wonderful visuals. - Many scenes in the desert. - Lots of movement like running and falling. - But the story and ending did not make much sense to me.
