Vanitas no Karte

Scorned by others of his kind for being born under a blue moon, the vampire Vanitas grew afraid and desolate. According to legend, he created a cursed grimoire known as the "Book of Vanitas," and it is said he would one day use it to bring retribution upon all vampires of the crimson moon.

In 19th century Paris, Noé Archiviste is searching for the fabled Book of Vanitas. Whilst traveling aboard an airship, he is saved from a vampire attack by an eccentric doctor who calls himself Vanitas and carries the very tome he seeks. Ironically, the self-proclaimed vampire specialist is a mere human who inherited both his name and the book from his master, the same Vanitas of legend. As the odd case of the Charlatan's Parade crops up, the doctor's ability to restore sanity to vampires by recovering their true name will prove most beneficial.

I have seen a lot of Vampire and Werewolf myth based animes and shows and I may say that this is one of the many works I could recommend to have anyone watch. The overall plot is intriguing ang the mere fact that the main lead is not all that serious with the whole love troupes and just usually goes along the flow of every event makes it more entertaining. I have watched so many shows that have eccentric characters in them and I guess that it will still depend on the viewer's point of view if they find the characters' character to be appealing ... to them or not.

This anime is a pure bliss for me. It focuses on a different kind of vampire and somewhat gives it a depth meaning of how the creatures of the night are longing for equality and connection; may it be within their community or with other races. It made me curious as to how the legend of this anime became to be whether the author made it up or it truly existed in the real world but I may say that the author truly knows their pieces given that I have watched Pandora's heart before as well and liked it so much that I wanted to have more of it and read the manga.

Honestly, I gave this a 7 because I find the anime satisfying in terms of giving the manga some life and seeing the elements that were not easily seen but only imagined before come to life. It did not reach and 8 for me simply because the topic of Vampires is already broad enough and been somehow tweaked a lot for the story to come within, meaning it has been overused already by the media and I would rather have something newer and more fresh than vampires. I guess I may say, I have grown tired of this topic already but not to the point of not allowing myself be entertained by the myth and other relatively impactful sources of it.

Mixed Feelings

The Case Study of Vanitas can be described as someone who grew up good looking. It is so incredibly beautiful to look at with above average animation and great color grading. But wow is it also just so boring to follow. The plot is just, there. I think the only reason anyone would ever watch this is because of the fact that there are vampires, and that the artsyle and character designs are just nice to look at (and that's fine).

Jeanne and Vanitas' dynamic was genuinely the only thing I found interesting and that's about it. I'd recommend to anyone like me who likes ... looking at colors and pretty things.

I did not enjoy this anime at all. First: let's look at the animation. It is pretty good, higher quality than most smaller, unknown animes,
the world and characters all look good, the quality of the fights is decent, the buildings and areas are well made, and the setting is cool,
it's an old late 1800s setting, i like it but it gets dragged down so much by it's lack of good characters.

second: All of the characters in this anime are absolute garbage, the only good character is the mc, vanitas. They are all either really annoying, or just flat out bad, especially the important side characters, ... noe, the white haired guy that's always with vanitas, is extremely poorly made, he looks cool and all but his character is the most annoying thing ever, he switches up so often, from going to try and want to kill vanitas, to wanting to stay with him and is all in all, really annoying. Jeanne, the white haired girl that is somewhat important, has the most abysmal character ever, she's a tsundere for starters, arguably the worst type of character ever, and the little annoying kid that is her "master" hates vanitas, so do all of the characters in this garbage heap of an anime, the only character that is somewhat likeable other than vanitas is the annoying blonde knight guy, that is like the only character that at all cares about vanitas and doesn't want to kill him, but he is an unimportant side character, so he doesn't show up at all after the few episodes he is in.

Third: the story. it's pretty meh, it's about the mc hunting vampires and other things with a cursed grimoire he was given, the group around vanitas is horrible, all of the characters hate him and want to either kill him or imprison him, but they don't because he is the only one that can use the grimoire, so all of them agreed on going around with vanitas until they hunt all of the vampires and other monsters, so they can then kill him and destroy the book after.

overall rating, 4.7/10. it could've been an 8/10 if the author didn't make every character except vanitas horrible.
