Around 40 Otoko no Isekai Tsuuhan

From nowhere, middle-aged illustrator Kenichi Hamada finds himself summoned to another world. Despite arriving in an unfamiliar land, he realizes he can still connect to an online shop named Shangri-La, which he frequented back in Japan, to order almost anything. Not long after, Kenichi comes across a town and, using Shangri-La, decides to become a merchant in the settlement.

By selling products from Earth, he is quickly able to make a living for himself while gaining acquaintances and the attention of local companies. However, the man just wants to live a quiet life without nuisances and leaves the town to build a cabin in a nearby forest. Though interrupted from time to time, there is nothing that can stop Kenichi from having his peaceful days.

To be honest, in the beginning I seriously thought this would be your average cringe isekai, as always. MC gets isekai’d straight from his bed into another world. Nothing new.

I had zero expectations from this show, but somehow I reached episode five without getting bored, which honestly surprised me.

The main reason I clicked on Daily Life of a Middle-Aged was harem and romance. Did I get what I came for?
Absolutely yes.

The show has harem moments, it has romance moments, and it clearly pushes adult jokes and situations in a comedy way. The only thing missing is that the studio didn’t go all the way. These ... MFs should have given us uncensored scenes too.

There is also a loli character who is overly bold and obsessed with the MC. Since it’s Japan, I wasn’t surprised at all. I knew something like this would show up, but t they stopped it before crossing the line, fuk you. ಠ⁠_⁠ಠ

Story wise, let’s be honest, it’s nothing special. The animation looks cheap, the story feels low budget, and it’s very basic. But the important thing is it’s not boring. I actually enjoyed watching it.

Overall, I watched this anime for harem and romance, and I got exactly what I expected. I just hope the studio improves the animation, releases an uncensored version, and gives us season 2.◉⁠‿⁠◉

Mixed Feelings

The secret to Mallow Trading Company's big profits is: ¨Business is conducted for someone's happiness¨. Whether if that happiness includes the viewers', I am not entirely sure.

Around 40 Otoko no Isekai is the story of Kenichi, a middle aged reincarnated corporate worker that wishes for nothing but a slow, easy life in this new world. However, in spite of his wishes and due to his singular ability to spawn things off Amazon, the world always has something brewing to prevent it from happening.

If you are able to look past the Powerpoint slideshow animation style, you will likely find an enjoyable isekai for the first half ... of the show, in which Kenichi prioritizes survival strategy and adaptation. Unfortunately, this aspect later on falls off as the main character gets dragged into more tropey scenarios and the shift focuses onto half-baked cooking recipes to impress the main character's harem (or squatters, the way I see them).

In my opinion, if you suspend your disbelief, it can be quite enjoyable to watch Kenichi prioritize his personal philosophy and middle-agedness, giving this show a fresh spin away from your standard out of the box cookie cutter isekai show. But rather than a magnum opus that will take on your full attention, I would instead consider this a rather fun show that can surprise you and make you chuckle over the nonchalant attitude of most characters. Simply something fun to watch on the side while performing other tasks.

Story
If one were to summarize this show in a single sentence, it would be "a very shallow isekai harem that is generally family-friendly but occasionally teases adult content". The narrative moves too quickly, which prevents us from getting any deeper background or satisfying development for the threads that are introduced. It follows the classic formula of the genre: the protagonist starts as a nobody in Episode 1 and becomes the biggest fish in the world by the end of the season.

Art Style
Most of the visuals are average, but there are a few scenes that are noticeably lacking finishing touches. Overall, I would rate the animation ... and art style as very slightly below average.

Conclusion
There are much better anime available in this genre that use a similar scenario. If you have already watched those superior titles, you might consider giving this one a try. Otherwise, I would strongly advise avoiding it.
