Yano-kun no Futsuu no Hibi

For as long as he can remember, the klutzy Tsuyoshi Yano has been prone to injury. Constantly showing up to school with fresh scrapes and bruises, he has long become accustomed to the pain and to the sight of his face covered in bandages. However, Yano's days begin to change for the better when he is transferred to a new class and meets Kiyoko Yoshida, the class president known for her reliability and kindheartedness.

Through Yoshida's efforts to learn more about him, Yano starts to experience the kind of high school life he has always wished for—one filled with laughter and camaraderie. Between casual conversations and countless small accidents, the two gradually grow closer, and their relationship may bloom into something more than just friendship.

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

Yano-Kun's Ordinary Days isn't your typical highschool romcom...the girl is the main lead and it's told from her perspective :O Jokes aside, this is a cute little romcom between the class president and a guy who gets injured on a daily basis. Since she (Kiyoko) is so used to patching people up to begin with thanks to her little siblings getting hurt, she offers to patch him (Yano) up instead of him going to the nurse's office constantly.

Honestly, it's so refreshing to see a MC who's aware of their crush on the love interest and doesn't spend the season in denial...that can't be said ... about Yano however, it's like if the dense protagonist switched roles with the love interest. At least Yano has a solid reason though since he spent a majority of his time alone and never thought about icky stuff like romance.

Kiyoko herself is a good lead imo, which is weird because she's not too far off from other female leads in romance anime I don't like as much, for example Honey Lemon Soda and a show also airing this season called A Star Brighter Than The Sun. Shows like those two examples feel like they're written by teenagers making a Wattpad story; way more dramatic than it needs to be, very sappy and lacks a lot of comedic value, just not my cup of tea. While Yano-Kun's Ordinary Days doesn't take itself as seriously while still maintaining the romance aspect, and while it's not laugh at loud comedy, it's entertaining enough to not feel like a drag.
Yano himself is a good love interest too, he's handsome enough to where it's believable, he keeps to himself but is still friendly. He's just a nice guy who happens to get injured all the time. Although, I'm not sure how he's never got concussed yet by how many sports balls he's been hit in the face with. Him and Kiyoko just have a nice dynamic going on and it has a believable pace of how fast a school relationship probably would develop (not that I would know, it just feels believable enough to me)

The side characters are also a lot of fun, her friend Mei is a good support system to Kiyoko and feels like an actual friend who wants to see her best friend succeed and the goofball that hangs out from time to time, Tanaka makes for some decent comedic affect. Even if he did injure Yano like twice in one episode. There's a few more who are yet to be introduced by the time I'm writing this, but the next one seems to be an athletic guy who has a stern exterior but is actually nice and wants the best for his friends.
Kinda reminds me of Horimiya in a way, where the friends are just as important to the plot as the main couple. Mei even looks like Yoshikawa a bit. Yano even reminds me a lot of Miyamura, the quiet type who gets along really well with the FMC once they get to know each other.

Going into this show I was worried it was gonna be another mid "love interest has random quirk about them" anime like The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses but thankfully the gag doesn't get too overplayed and is only brought up when it's relevant to the plot, and as mentioned, I actually like these characters, which I can't say about the MC of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses who has an orgasm every time he put on his crush's glasses.

Yep. Solid show. Would recommend if you still like school romcoms and have time to spare. 7/10 👍

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

I dropped this show, even though I liked it a bit. It just isn't what I'm looking for right now.

The writing style seems to stay consistent throughout the first three episodes I've seen, and unfortunately that's just the part that turns me away. The characters are quite upfront about their morals and conflict. They tend to say the narratives out loud rather than showing it and having the characters FEEL like real people. Of course, that isn't inherently a bad thing. This is just a cartoon, after all. I liked the way Yano's character was initially presented, given his condition. But because of the writing ... style, I started to become indifferent. I don't see anything remarkable with Kiyoko's character, but I'm also glad she actually has a reason NOT to confess her feelings to Yano. It gives this debacle an actual driving force, unlike another popular romance shounen (looking at you, Fragrant Flower) (also both of these shows are shounen, not shoujo). If you're someone that can enjoy cuteness and simplicity, then I'm sure you'll like this show.

One thing I do have to mention though: the art style. I really, really, really love the art style. It almost makes me a bit sad that I'm dropping this show. The art style is so cute and pure. The linework is nice and clean. It's like staring at a well-polished vase. And when the characters become all cartoony for their gags, it's quite charming. Nothing crazy happens in this show, but just looking at the characters with their cuteness and simplicity (like this show) feels like tasty eye candy.

So overall, a show that looks like a nice and easy watch with its simple story and lovely art style, but does not look like a worthy time investment for anyone that wants a more complex and well-crafted story.

This anime is awkward. First 4 episodes are about this guy (main male character) who every time and inexplicably (i dare say not very realistic) gets hurt in a some way and the main female character who every time takes care of him healing his wounds. She seems a mother with his own child and he lives on clouds. Honestly i watched it without pleasure, BUT around episode 5 and 6 begins to change something. But also this changing is awkward: he understands he loves her because he reads a shojo manga suggested by his friend (who is in love with Yoshida too - and ... i definitely prefer him) in which is explained how do you feel when you are in love with someone. I hope after this last episode the structure will change definitely and get deep in the relationship and character psychology (and not always he hurts and she heals).
After saying that, at last i would not recommend it if you are tired of these repetitive shojo anime which doesn’t make you feel any emotions but bored.
