Synopsis

Momoko, who attends a special school, is both mentally and physically disabled. Every morning she becomes peevish because she can't go to the ordinary school with her twin brother Riki. Her family soothes Momoko by singing her favorite song "The Song of Frogs."

One day, Momoko shouts encouragement to Riki who's playing dodgeball at an open classroom day and Riki's team wins the game. Ryuji, whose team lost the game, is not impressed and demands that Riki stop bringing his 'idiot sister' to school. Riki totally loses control and hits Ryuji with all his might.

The following year, an experiment in integrated education is implemented and Momoko begins to attend Riki's school. Unfortunately, her physical condition takes a turn for the worse and she's sent to a hospital. Riki and all her classmates want to cheer her up and they set a goal of winning a relay race so that they would be able to tell Momoko the good news. Meanwhile, the fastest sprinter, Ryuichi, insists that he won't be taking part in the race.

Incredible anime movie!! I found this by accident on anime planet and watched it on YouTube. It had no subs but I did use the auto translation feature which was glitchy and bad but I was able to understand most of the movie. Its about a 10 year old boy who has a disabled twin sister, and basically about them overcoming struggles and doing a race. The characters and themes are the best part of this movie! About accepting people's differences, overcoming challenges and helping people with special needs and the struggles that special needs people go through. My favorite character was monoko she was ...

A good portrayal of the struggles of a handicapped child, good portrayal of children as a whole.
Well paced, well directed, most importantly: Well acted.

The main heroine is basically a shonen protagonist in a little girls body, she's full of spirit and guts. So much fire in such a frail vessel. Like other movies with a disability theme there are characters that give the mc a hard time, but realistically come to terms in their own way with accepting or turning away from such differences.

As far as anime movies go involving disability, this is one of the better films, it's not too lengthy, it's ...

This is the first review I am planning on posting here. This is because I just can't help but to write one for this movie. I do not think that the art of this anime is very good, especially in comparison to other anime that came out during this time period. But I do believe it adds a kind of element to it, something that differentiates it from the rest. I know it is uncharacteristic to watch old anime that is no longer the latest, but it is good to go back and look at this art style every once in awhile.
